Had a 2020 4R TRD OR and was active on 4Runners.com. Sold it at a profit and bought a 2005 Sequoia Limited with 235K because I wanted a little more interior room, a little more power, a little more towing capacity, and no more car payments. I've always loved the 3rd gen 4Runner and still think its the best, but it doesn't check those boxes. The 1st gen Sequoia reminds me of a bigger brother to the 3rd gen 4R. I've always liked how they look, it has the nice 4.7L, 4WDs have ATRAC, and I considered a 1st gen before I bought my 2020 4Runner (wife talked me out of an older high mileage vehicle at the time).

So far the Tree is stock. I'm the 4th owner. Owned in NC and SC its whole life. Last owner owned it since 2011 @ 100K miles. He was a home mechanic and stated he had timing belt done at ~197K. No oil leaks, steering rack bushings are solid (for now), brakes are good, air bags recently replaced, front shocks recently replaced with OEM, good condition Michelin highway tires with approx. 2/3 life left. All in all, a pretty solid, well maintained vehicle for a pretty decent price. A few minor scratches and dings (PO used the proper touch up paint) but it is a 16 year old vehicle with 235K. It's not going to be perfect.

The bad: leather cracking on drivers seat (normal wear and tear), speaker dry rot (JBL), rear hatch sticks, front passenger power lock actuator is bad, and the PO broke the power mirror adjust switch.

Already replaced the liftgate latch (works perfectly now), door lock actuator, and power mirror switch. Also ordered a full stereo system replacement from Crutchfield (big screen CarPlay head unit, speakers, and small sub to round out the bass) to bypass the JBL and added a backup camera. Components should start arriving tomorrow and I'm taking Friday off to install it all before a weekend camping trip with my youngest and the dogs.

I'm here to learn about the 1st gens and keep this beast going for a good while.

Update on my big girl, we like her so much, we got another 2005. Then I decided it was time for a new front end and Dobinson IMS kit (SPC uppers, 33's, air spring delete, steering rack bushings, rebuilt calipers, new OEM lower control arms, sway bar end links, Yukon carrier bushing, rebuilt axles for high clearance boots, spindle gussets, etc). Took her to Windrock in January and got pretty muddy. Ordered new Angel Eyes headlights. Most recently, I noticed a radiator leak (crack at the top, behind the foam) - fortunately she didn't leak too much or overheat (I was on a 200 mile round trip for work). Replaced it with an aluminum 3-core from Champion.

Next on the list - clean the throttle body, Transmission service, and a thorough cleaning.

    Both Sequoias before lift.

Post-lift comparison - nothing too drastic

Nice!!! In '18, I sold our '03 in MINT condition with 107k miles on it. I should have kept it.
