I am looking at getting new tires here in the future along with a 6112s on the 1.9 setting with shims. The size I'm looking at is Duratracs 285/75r18. I'm coming from the stock Michelin LTX A/T2s in 275/65r18. My question is how big of a loss am I going to feel with the stock 4.3s gearing vs regearing to 4.88?

The 5.7 with 4.30s is fine even with those almost 35 tires. Not just the size increase though, How much heavier are they? Do you tow anything?

The duratracs are actually 35.1in. Weight is 60lbs vs. the stock Michelins are 52lbs. So not a huge difference weight wise. I also just learned of Falkens new Wildpeak R/Ts which sparked some interest. The only downside is they are 70lbs. How much does the weight of the tire play into it?

70 pounds is a very heavy tire. Every 10 pounds of rotating mass is like adding 100 pounds to the truck. I’ll never buy another Goodyear product but I know the duratrac is a loved tire. Make sure those falkens are not made in China.

Yep, Goodyear has been black listed for me just like any mopar product. Junk mopars is what led me to buying my first yota. Just put cooper rugged treks on my tundra.CCA2A9F7-A838-4505-9425-725819212181.jpg

Not sure a 3 day review is worth anything. They look great, made in the USA , 3 peaks snow rated, $100 off for 4. Those are the reasons I bought them. My sister ordered a set yesterday for her t4r.

If you regear, I would recommend 5.29 instead of 4.88 for that size tire.

and, I’d definitely regear for 35” tires! Our Tundras are geared too tall from the factory, and going up 3” in tire size is really working against you.

Those 35s I would guess you’ll lose 1-2mpg with a 5.7 and stock. If you put on heavy aftermarket wheels could be 2-3mpg. But for how the truck feels with 35s I would say it’s fairly marginal in acceleration/highway using stock 4.3 gears, it’ll feel slower but not a “wow” amount.

do you think it'd be worth regearing at that point?

I would put on the new tires and see how you like it, if it ends up bugging you then regearing is a good option and can be combined with getting a locker or LSD at the same time too. I think most people do 35s and call it good as is from what I have seen. Picking light weight rims can offset alot of the added tire weight component.

I'm pretty sure new duratracs can't be found in the US anymore?

Make sure you have the suspension for 285/75/r18.

I picked up a set of used duratracs and used steelies and finally put them on my TRD Pro for trying out today. They fit. About 1.5" higher, give or take, than stock rims.

I can definitively tell the difference in acceleration. The truck works harder for sure.

I intend to use these only for off-roading and putting my alloy stock size back on when not off-roading.

I did not go with Duratracs, but 35 KO2s. I have an additional 350-400ish lbs in the bed from a Decked system and topper. I regeared to 5.29 and it was absolutely worth it. The gear hunting drove me nuts and while I don’t tow a ton, it was a pig pulling our 3700-4k camper. If you have the means to regear, definitely do it - I’d go to 5.29 and skip the 4.88.

    You'd have to ask goodyear.

I noticed I couldn't find them in stock anywhere, and at least one place said "discontinued". A little more research confirmed what I was seeing elsewhere.

Although, looking now, I find them in stock, so who knows!

I am a Duratrac fan. Mine have 42k miles, I've beat the crap out of them, and they are awesome. Slightly slower off the line. Easy to fit with a 2" lift (TRD Fox suspension). No cutting, heating, pushing required. Snow rated.

KO2s look cool and are good for desert/rocky conditions. Their tight tread pattern is absolutely TERRIBLE at clearing mud, and they are known to get hard/brittle at 20-25k which makes them terrifying on pavement in the rain. I will never again run that tire.

I can still get 14mpg combined (corrected) easily, 16 combined if I'm trying hard. I can also get 19+ on the highway staying under 65 in the right lane.

Here's an older pic from Imogene Pass. Made easy work of that trail in torrential rain and hail with my DTs aired down to 20ish psi.

I just ordered a Duratrac for a matching spare on Thursday. Tire rack has them in stock!
