So... I've made it to the ripe old age of 46 (trust me - it wasn't planned) without taking vehicles to mechanics or buying a vehicle under a warranty.

I ruined that streak earlier this year, and find myself with a Tundra coming up on 5000 miles, the first service interval.

It's kind of inconvenient this week, and next week we are going on a bit of a trip that will add another 700 or so...

Any downside to doing the 5k service at 5600 or so?

Humor me. It's my first new vehicle.

I think you will be perfectly fine for your trip, but I personally like to change the initial break-in oil at about 1k., then 5k intervals after that, but I'm older and a little anal. :)

Isn't the regular oil change as per Toyota is 10k miles? That's in the manual, so you should be just fine.

I will do my oil changes every 5k miles though

I'm changing the oil before we leave.

Oil is cheap, engines aren't. My '89 pickup went a half million miles for a reason.

    Thanks!

Miss your oil change, you might void your warranty.

TTV6, you should change every 3k.

well depends on the vehicle cycle.

normal duty was 10k miles (5k for rotates) for LOF and abnormal duty was 5k LOF.

on the FFV v8's it was 5k regardless even if you didnt use flex fuel per the service manual but the non flex v8's were 10k.

Not trying to start an issue , but that's a filter manufacturer I am sure they would love more oil changes.

Also my years of experience in fleet maintenance , engine rebuilding ect tell me real world that's not needed. I believe service manual for the Tundra 3.5 says 5k under sever conditions and 10k normal. Those number seem pretty good to me on full synthetic. Castrol labs does all my testing for me on my fleet, I will be sending them samples from he Tundra, who knows I may be wrong. I will certainly post the details here.

Also I just do not see why everyone sees a turbo and thinks you need to baby an engine, yep they do break so does everything else. But the most abused engines in the world have been running them forever.

Water cooled helps controls temps, but oil quality still applies.
