I think some of us can relate...

All those fancy features that come with your new car might be a little more annoying than useful.

A new study from J.D. Power found that many drivers disable features like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems because the alerts are so bothersome. For example, 61 percent of drivers who said they were annoyed by lane-keeping and centering systems sometimes disabled the feature.

Some drivers said they wouldn’t want the “nannying” technology on their future vehicles, according to the study.

My thoughts on all this electronic assist crap - Many drivers that use them will rely too much on their vehicles to warn them rather than look out the damn windshield and just drive. I honestly feel that it makes driving less safe and that the alarms do more to distract rather than assist. I rented some Nissan POS recently and spent a good 30 minutes trying to disable these assist features. It's insanity.

I've been fine with the 18+ Tundra system, it's not super intrusive and comes in handy (I've never actually experienced the auto braking though)

I agree with this completely. I just got a 2019 tundra and I hate all the added BS on it. I’ve turned off the lane assist and head light auto turn off stuff. I want to turn off the cruise control stuff that shuts you down 100 yards behind a slower vehicle but I haven’t found out how to shut it off yet.

Sounds like there's a growing chorus of folks who are jelly that my 1997 T-100 just keeps on going.

The only "nanny" feature it has is the corkscrew in the glove box. :woot:

I’m pretty happy with my 2015 Pro, don’t think I’d trade straight across for anything newer.

Of course, I believe I’m in a minority group, don’t want push button start, heated steering wheel, moonroof, cooled seats or leather. I also am satisfied with the stock music and information system.

Just want to get where I want to and get back home. Toyota seems to do this quite well.

The most unfortunate part is that all of this nannying is based on electronics. Electronics fail, and the last thing you need is to hve them fail at the most in opportunistically time. Look at all the Tesla crashes. I work in IT, I KNOW ELECTRONICS, id disable as many as i could and rather not rely on them, i am almost 68 yrs old been driving 50 yrs without being nannyed no need to start now.

I believe long press of the cruise control button does it. Don't remember exactly as I dont use cruise that often, but I read it in the OM.

I actually like the new tech a lot. It makes it easier to know if I'm accidentally going out of my lane when I'm texting. Also, the cross traffic stuff is super helpful when im backing out of a parking lot. I never use my mirrors cause they make everything seem closer than it really is. A nice beep from the car let's me know when it's all good to pull out. I do it fast because pedestrians think they have the right of way in parking lots. Common misconception. I'm larger and they not. The auto collision saved me the other day while coming up in a school zone, the speed limit dropped from 50 to 25 (but that's a recommendation) so while I reached back to the back seat to grab another beer and didn't see the car in front slow down to a crawl the car braked and saved me from spilling my cerveza. I love the new technology in cars, it's about time automakers have listened to the consumer and actually made the vehicles match the 21st century. Now, if the head unit actually played movies while I'm on long road trips that would be so much more enjoyable for me and my passengers!

I like the rear cross traffic sensors, BSM and cruise control features.

Don’t like the ‘lane assist’ or whatever it’s called that beeps really loud when you slightly cross yellow or white lines. But good for late night driving

Yes I hate the lane keep assist too, driving a big truck you have to take the apex, and use the full lane, that thing just keep beeping on every corner, but love my parking sensor, and cross traffic alert.

Yep. I forgot to add it makes talking on the phone annoying as heck for both parties when that thing is beeping every 10 seconds.

Well crafted and masterfully delivered sarcasm and it’s much admired! I always speed through school zones drinking beer and watching movies!

All these tech stuff produces dumb drivers on the road.

New Generations will never learn to drive as cars are becoming autonomous/self-driving. They will depend on all these technologies to do their daily stuff.

I feel like it’s a decent blend of new technology without being completely obtrusive. Our Tahoe is much more obnoxious and constantly beeping about something. The tundra parking sensors seem to have a much closer active range than the Tahoe. The tundra doesn’t start beeping until you’re really close. The Tahoe beeps on the freeway when driving through a construction zone with k-rails and its constantly detecting “imminent” collisions for no reason. It seems we’re headed for nuclear meltdown sometimes just backing out of the driveway.

I mainly appreciate the fact that everything isn’t “IPad” controlled like priuses and Tesla’s still have some good old fashioned buttons and knobs.

I do find myself getting lazy with the adaptive cruise control. It’s easy to quit paying close attention to the car in front of you.

Rented a '19 Taco a month back and it had that adaptive cruise, after having it on for the drive home with it slowing down for a car turning left ahead of me and matching the speed of a car that it seemed like I was a quarter mile behind I found the way to disable it. I don't know if it had the lane departure but it probably did. Decided then I'm keeping my '15 as long as possible.
