I’m looking to replace the speakers and upgrade the amp on my 19 crew max. I’m 38 and the last time I have messed with sound systems was when I was in High school. I use to have 6 JL Audio 10W6 with 2 1200 watt precision power amps, with two sets of mb quart component sets. That’s not what I want now lol. I want to keep the stock unit. What speakers are people going with these days? I’m not looking to enter bass competitions just want better sound and to be able to turn it up a little when I want too. I’m going to read some threads on what I need to do to keep my stock unit and change the amp to a more suitable one. Any help to avoid mistakes others have made is much appreciated.

Check out Focal. Great speakers and they have some that fit without adapters

I went with Hertz front and rear doors, disconnected stock dash speakers (left, center, and right) and added 5 channel ********* amp and Kicker CompRT subwoofer. Bass is a little weak, but overall sound is 100% improved. Many here will suggest Tech12Volts. I had no problems with *********. I would do custom box for subwoofer if I changed anything. I would like to keep jack in Cab.

When I worked for a Toyota dealership, I put a ********* full system in the owners truck and he is still loving it.

    Thanks

I’ve looked at the taco tunes it def seems like the easiest choice. I know I will use the amp mount. I’m thinking I want to get a JL amp and at least a 10TW1 haven’t decided between it or a 10TW3. I don’t know much about focal I will look at them for the doors.

Focal has some higher end stuff. Ive had them in a few vehicles over the years, As far as the JL sub, you just have to make sure you have the room behind the seat.

I always used components before any coaxial’s good enough to use? I know they are generally quite a bit cheaper. My price range for the doors are somewhere under $400 for fronts and same budget for the rears. As always if I can get what I want for cheaper that’s a plus as well.

I have Infinity Kappas in front with tweeters in sail panels. 5 channel Taco Tunes amp and shallow 10" Fosgate sub behind rear seat. Sub was tight but fit. 1000x better than stock. I did door speakers first. Infinity,s can be driven with factory amp but new amp is night and day. I rarely have passengers so no hurry to do rear speakers. I just have more power to front.

your budget for the fronts are close to getting JL C5-650's. they are absolutely amazing....its what i'm running in the front and c2-650's in the rear powered by a JL Hd900/5 and a stealthbox in the back with two 10tw3's. I put a JL Fix86 before the amp to clean up the sound and it works great.
there's a link to my build in my signature.

I have had no problem with their amp. I have never got the tuning CD to format properly to work in my head unit. I suggested they send me one but never heard a peep out of them. I did everything but call. I just tuned it the old fashioned way by ear. Never considered their sub. I did not want to lose the little storage in the Tundra.

If you don't mind, which "shallow 10" Fosgate sub" did you use? My Kicker sub is ok, but I could use more base, without losing storage and the jack mount. Thanks.

You have some options on upgrade, you are doing it right by reading, asking question and learning. I am upgrading My 2019 Tundra / JBL as we speak, I kept my head unit then installed (DSR1, JL XD7005v2 amp, Focal 165 KRX20 in the front, Hertz's K170 in rear. I still have to install two JL 10TW3 also for the dash 4 JL Audio C1-075ct, but for dash I may do something different depending how the C1-075ct sound once installed.
At moment the sound is awesome and I still have components to install and tuning on the DSR1 to do,
My advice is get a decent set of speakers for the front, some speakers for the rear fill with at least a decent 5 channel amp and you should be happy with plenty of volume, (I am not sure if you have JBL or not, if no JBL you have a little more flexibility in upgrading, if you have the JBL system you have home work to do.

One thing I'm not 100% clear on... with the JBL system, the bluetooth/navigation audio comes through the dash speakers right? Haven't seen any concrete info on this yet.

Have you figured this piece out yet? @billru

That is correct on the JBL system, the prompts for bluetooth/navigation audio comes through the dash speakers, if you upgrade to the DSR1 you can configure the prompts for which speaker or speakers before you flash the DSR1, I chose all speakers

Thank you for all the responses I just contacted James with some questions I had. I will update you when I get everything in the mail and start the installation. I’m going with front and rear replacements along with a amp. After I get those installed if that scratches the itch I will stop if not I will get a jl audio 10 tw3 and another amp.

I went with JL Audio CR-650 front and CR-650X for the rear. The amp I haven’t bought yet I’ve been looking at some used JL amps slash model. Haven’t decided on the amp quite yet.

The slash amps are good. I have a 300/4 special edition black amp. It's amazing and powers all my speakers really well. I am impressed with it, I got it used too.

Don't do it. Leave the stock system alone. I decided to replace the front speakers to clean things up, then the back door speakers, then amp, then head unit, then a pair of shallow 8" subs. Now the only thing stock is the speaker wires and dash speakers ( have replacements on the shelf to do later) Even used a box of Kilmat on the doors and rear seats ( 45 sq feet). I couldn't stand the stock system. Had to max out volume to listen to talk radio. But once you start upgrading, you will be replacing the entire system. ( BTW, it was totally worth replacing)

Slash amps are great. Even the earlier versions. But just to give a few other options:

    Ampere Audio 75x4 ch and 4ohms $270
    https://store.soundsolutionsaudio.com/ampere-audio-aa-75-4-600w-4-channel-amplifier/

Incriminator Audio 75x4 (very nice amp) $200
    https://store.soundsolutionsaudio.c...-audio-i304-300w-rms-4-channel-amplifier.html

US Amps 100x4 (great reputation for the last 25 years) $220
    https://store.soundsolutionsaudio.c...ics-barbara-ann-400w-4-channel-amplifier.html

Soundqubed S4 100 (class d amp, and bandpass crossover. Under rated too) $170
    https://soundqubed.com/product/s4-100-multi-channel-amplifier/

Those are all legit quality amps that I wouldn't think twice about running.

I'm currently fighting a losing battle with *********. I suggest sourcing speakers, amps, harnesses, etc. yourself and install it. About the only thing ********* is good for are the install videos which are handy for just about any system.

DIY pop n lock, 2018 LED headlights, morimoto fogs, TRD shift knob, DirtyDeeds 8"BAM exhaust, kenwood HU,JL amp, Tech12volts Tundra full speaker upgrade w/sub, Swing case, and lots of fluid film
Unfortunately this seems to be a common occurrence. Lots of people rave about ********* but I also see tons of negative feedback. For me, a company that sells speakers and amps, but won't tell you who the manufacturer is or true power output numbers, is a red flag. All their "plug and play" stuff doesnt make sense. No decent amp can push speakers when the power wire is a 16g wire from the OEM harness.

James at tech12volts is the real deal. Quality stuff, meets or beats big box store and Amazon prices. And his personal attention to detail and his customers is a rarity these days
