Have a 2015 Tundra that kills the battery after 1-2 minutes of the drivers door open???? Thought it might had been the aftermarket stereo amp system so I DELETED that and the problem still getting worse, now this morning it almost didn’t start after opening the door to get it ???

How old is the battery? Part of the complaint on here is that people are only getting a few years on the factory battery

I’ve had that and the alternator tested three times by different places and they all tell me it’s in excellent shape??

Odds are its the battery. Yes, a few people out there get 7 years out of their battery, blah, blah, blah, but the majority of us that live in heat or extreme cold seldom do

    Get an AGM battery yesterday.

Those will last a long time, not corrode, etc

I haven't seen one AGM beat a Northstars numbers yet, but everyone has their favorite.

Anything is better than your dieing 2014 battery in your 15 Tundra.

    Keep us informed.

My wife had the issue and same as you had the battery checked.
    It passed.

Replaced the battery and it worked well but hers was 5 years old.

    How old is it?

Over two years you are close to being due any way

    It’s a 3/18 battery, I bought the truck in 5/18.

His is stock in a 2015. So I'd wager its a 2014. Some of the battery tester folks are questionable. I went to an autozone before a trip and the guy said my battery was great and apparently he didn't have all the settings correct. At any rate, when you get into 4 year territory with a wet battery or 7 with an AGM, just bite the bullet and get the best damn battery you can afford and move on. :rockband:

Wait... What? Warranty that battery! Toyota time!
2018s are either new or generally in 2019 trucks.
You looked for the stamp on the battery top right?

Yep it says 3/18. I think it’s a short someplace. It has an aftermarket silencer security system and a driving light setup that I installed which was really easy so I think it’s the security system idk ?? Thanks for all the response though so far, was just hoping to find a similar problem out there

The short to discharge a full battery in 2 minutes would have to be so big you would hear it or smell it. It is a bad battery.

You need to figure where your long term parasitic draw is coming from. If alternator and battery is good, your running out of options.

I would agree if your battery was draining that fast due to a short you probably would have smelled it or seen the smoke by now. Have you put a meter on the battery to test voltage when it doesn't start to verify it is dead? A loose ground connection could cause your problem. If three different places have said your battery and alternator are good I'm kinda suspect that it would be bad. One place telling you that ok maybe I would be suspicious of it but three.. that is a lot less likely to be the issue.

put it on a carbon pile tester and see for yourself.
but its a 2015 its time to replace the battery. you can buy 12 years of batteries for one "northstar", just get a new battery locally off the shelf and be done.

i have a bridge to sell you.

You could verify with a volt meter easily but it’s a bad battery.

I like AGM too. I’m just refusing to get on the North Star crack wagon :)

Totally understand. Tons of AGM choices.. I'm open to most brands. Told the OP the same.

His battery was a 2018 battery, not a 2015. Looks like he is going with Northstar to avoid having another battery last 18 months.

I had a Motorcraft die at 9 months. Unfortunately dealers were closed and it was on my dime.
