Door Locks

Discovered on my 2020 Tundra LTD TRD OffRoad that if truck is running and I exit vehicle, lock with key (push button start vehicle) that I can not unlock door by any means, key, FOB or touch door handle. Where did I go wrong? I had to use lock out kit to gain entry.

 

Why lock with a key? Just touch the door handle to lock the truck. It will also unlock using the door handle. Touch the sensor area with the slots on the door handle. Reference the owner manual for instructions. If for some reason you have to lock with a key you may have to manually unlock with a key?

 

Tried locking with FOB and touching door handle while running, didn't work. So I locked with key, as I had on previously owned Tacoma. The problem was that it would then not unlock with key.

 

That was the one thing I didn't care for on my WRX with the push button start. You couldn't lock it and leave it running. I'm sure there's some kind of safety worry that manufacturers are trying to avoid, but it's an irritant.

 

Maybe they’re trying to prevent people from driving away with the fob outside the vehicle. You could do remote start but that shuts off after 10 min. How did you unlock if it didn’t unlock with the key? Are you running it to keep a pet warm/cool or?
