Hello, everyone -- I'm at my wits end trying to figure out this issue. Truck is new to me -- going on 2 weeks.

Problem is that the driver's door will not unlock with key fob or button on the master switch. The door will unlock with the key in the cylinder. All other doors function properly with both the fob and master switch on the driver's door. This problem started 3 days ago. Worked OK prior to that.

Here are some observations I've made and troubleshooting I've attempted.

First, I replaced the door lock actuator (OEM). Exact same symptoms persisted. I cleaned the connections on the actuator plug and master switch plugs. I've pulled the kick-plate and inspected the harnesses and grounds. All good. Cleaned and reconnected all harnesses under the kick plate.

When the truck is unlocked via the fob, all interior lights, bed lights, puddle lights function properly. Truck beeps on lock/unlock via key fob. Key in the cylinder will roll down front windows/sunroof when held in unlock position.

Checked the fuse under the dash for door lock. It's fine.

I've seen some threads on here and Reddit where folks have had the same symptoms, but no specific remedies.

I've also noticed that the heated mirror indicators on the mirrors do not illuminate when the rear defroster is on (I'm not sure if they're supposed to). Furthermore, the front right mirror does not function when the auto-fold button is engaged. The driver's side works fine. The mirrors have illuminated indicators and lane assist features that work fine on both sides.

I've pulled fuse diagrams and it appears that there's a multi fuse unit (integration relay module; part no.: 82641-0C030) that, among other things, contains the relays for the the door lock system and mirrors. At this point, I have little confidence that that'll fix the problem.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, everyone!

    Andrew

Did you test for the signal voltage at the actuator? If replacing the actuator did not fix it, it's likely not getting the signal to unlock. The fact that it doesn't work with either the fob or master switch means it's likely not either of those. Most likely there is a broken wire somewhere leading to no unlock signal going to the actuator.
9 times out of 10 if there is a wiring issue on a door, I'm looking at the wiring harness that goes from the body to the door near the hinges. The drivers door opens and closes the most in any vehicle, and those wires bend every time and will often break. Take a really close look there and see if you can spot any obvious problems, then put a test light on the actuator connector itself and see if it lights up when trying to unlock the door with the switch.

Thanks for that info. I’ll give that a shot. Appreciate it.

I'd make sure all your harnesses are clicked tight. Maybe pull the door panel apart and check operation - see if actuator has any motion. You could put a multimeter in the plug harness to
see if it's another bad actuator or it's not getting a signal.

Did you swap the whole actuator or take it apart and swap the motor?

Sounds like it could be a ground issue with all of the other “related” issues. Has the truck ever been in an accident? I ask because if one of the wires is inadvertently grounding of being pinched on the frame for example you could have these electrical gremlins.

Both actuators had the same movement with door panel off. Cable retracted when locked (both by fob and master switch) but didn’t push back on unlock.

Truck hasn’t been in any accidents. I’ll recheck to see if there are any grounding issues.

    Thanks!

Yeah I would juts chase it with a multimeter and see what it reads….the fact that it seems to be working properly visually is a bit baffling

Swapped the entire actuator unit. Replaced it w a new Toyota OEM unit.

Did it work?? Maybe it's not electrical and just the inside of the handle broke off... I have 2 broken ones. Inside door locks just flap around.

I have the same issue since I bought the truck a few months ago. I did some research back then, sounded like a BCM (body control module) issue is possibly the culprit as well. I haven't done anything yet to troubleshoot, just been using the key.

Any updates on this issue? I’m having the same problem on my 2017 trd pro

Can unlock lr, rr, rf with fob truck chime is beep, beep beep. Lf driver won’t unlock. Pressing unlock again will chime beep beep, beep beep as if all doors were unlocked. Fob will lock all doors.

Master switch will unlock lr, rr, rf. Driver door will not unlock. If you manually unlock driver door and press lock on master, driver door will lock.

does anyone know what pins to check on master/ on body ecu?

    thanks!

What sources are available for wiring diagrams?

I hate electrical but bought an inexpensive oscilloscope which is overkill but it graphs electrical signals, is faster than my DVM. It’s very useful especially if I can back probe and leave the device connected.

I’m thinking the 1st step is to find out if and when current is getting the the actuator. You need the diagram to know what pins to access and what the next stop up stream is.

It’s ok to wander in the wilderness until you decide that your 1st guess hasn’t fixed it. I note that the parts cannon has already been actuated and the lock hasn’t. Time to get strategic so where’s the diagram?
