A problem has developed with the door locks on my '14 Tundra. The first symptom was that the key fob would only work on the first operation in the morning. I would be able to unlock and lock the doors with the fob in the morning, but after starting and driving, the fob would not work. Soon, the button on the driver's side would not lock the doors, but would unlock them. Also one turn of the key in the driver door would unlock the driver door, and 2 turns would unlock all the doors.

    Now, the behavior is,
There is no response to the fob at all.
The door lock button on the driver side will unlock all doors, but not lock them.
The key will only lock and unlock the driver's door.
Placing the truck in park will unlock all doors.
Moving the truck out of park will lock all doors.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Not yet, but I don't see why that would prevent the door lock buttons on the driver and passenger side from locking the doors or the key from unlocking all doors on a second turn.

We had similar issue on the wife’s 4Runner. It ended up that multiple lock actuators were bad. Dealership fixed it, luckily it was under warranty because if not I believe the total was $1700.

I have '14 CM with the kind of problem. The left rear door is the only on that works. I ordered the motors (after gathering tons of info on the issue from here) and replaced the three that werent working. This did not fix the problem. After what should have been an hour job turned into all night (something didnt go back incorrectly on of the times and i couldnt open the driver door from inside or out), I am bout fed up with this issue. Contacting the dealership but i bought it used so i doubt they will be willing to help at all. Next move is dropping the $150 for the actuators and just replace those.
If anybody can think of somewhere else to attack this issue, feel free to share. Im at my wits end with this truck and Ive only had it a week. (having the radio/bluetooth reset issue as well and the truck wont recognize the only thumb drive I own.

The Toyota actuators are notorious for early failures...I literally replaced all four of mine within a five week period on my 2014 4runner. Good news is i could replace them in about 40 minutes. I may have a couple extra lying around if the tundra shares the same actuator.

Theres a little white plastic bushing the door lock rod connects to. The drivers door actuator on my 2010 Tacoma had broken, (Pretty sure VERY similar to the Tundra mech), so it would still push the actuator to unlock, but not pull it to lock. Fairly simple swap, I bought a salvaged unit from eBay and watched the YouTube video on the repair. (Just make sure you get the right one - driver side has the keyhole). Not sure if this is your problem or not, but if you remove the problem actuator and one of the rods is loose, that's probably the culprit. Good luck with the repairs!

I had 3 of the 4 actuators apart on the table yesterday. Seemed like they were all put back together correctly. Multiple functions test after reassembly (after the first one, driver door debacle). Pushed and pulled cables to verify correct operation and seemed to work. Mechanically, there was nothing wrong. Swapped the tiny motors and installed back in truck. Thought maybe if one was bad, it still wouldn’t work so went ahead and did all 3. No dice.
I do believe they share all the same mechanism and I’d gladly send some beer tokens your way for compensation.

I have been doing a bit of research and honestly, I have no clue if those will work or not. There seems to be various pn for each door so my searching is inconclusive. However, I did see something about silicon build up on the contacts, so for science, I’m going to remove them, clean them up with alcohol, lubricate very lightly with aviation electrical CPC and reinstalled.

Also heard back from the dealership and all they were willing to do is trade trucks back, which gets me nowhere.

I was thinking also of doing a write up of the process with pics for all those in the future who could benefit from it. Not sure if it’ll be worth my time so let me know what y’all think....

I’m pretty electrically savy as well, so if anyone has a wiring diagram, I could also test the relay and such.

I’m watching with interest. I have a 14 CM that has issues with the driver and rear driver doors unlocking and locking when I use the key fob. Some days they work great, other days they’re crap. Please post pics of your process.

Same issue here. I will be replacing the actuator on the drivers door today. I bought all the parts through Amazon, and found a thread here about that specific problem. 736C96C7-2BB0-4670-8F85-C62C9067F63B.jpg

I didn’t have a new battery but I had a known working one and tried that. Same same. Going to order new as well though to avoid future embarrassment

Yup. It’s a delicate process getting the actuators apart without break the little tabs that hold the together. And the plastic rivet at the front top of the door panel....you will break it. Trying to find replacement on Amazon but no luck yet

Also, to help you avoid the foul up I had, I will emphasize test the actuator after install BEFORE shutting your door. That is not a fun process to correct....ask me how I know

Always easiest and cheapest first. I know it’s not a fuse because one door still works just like it’s supposed to. My next thought was battery, then actuator motor(cheap and not too difficult), then actuator (easier than motor but more expensive), next on my list is relay, and after that is termite grenade.

After going through this with the 4Runner, save yourself the time, effort and headache. Just order the entire actuator from Amazon and replace the whole damn thing. Trying to get it alart without breaking something and putting it back together and getting everything lined up is a royal pain. My time and sanity is more valuable to me than the $20 I would save.

I’ve already had mine apart. Was too difficult. Just make sure you get to it before too many shiners.

Did you change any of your lights to LED?...see other topic on this...my '18 DC Limited started doing weird things with respect to the key fob after I changed the exterior cab lights to led. Turned out to be known problem on this forum.

Put in LED headlights almost 3 years ago. No other light replacements. Replaced the HU with a Pioneer 7200NEX last July. Added an iDataLink Maestro RR at the same time. Interestingly, the doors do lock and unlock when I move in and out of Park when I enabled that feature. It's strange that the power lock buttons on the front driver and passenger doors will unlock, but not lock the doors. I don't see how the battery in the fob could affect that. Aslo, I don't see how the fob would prevent the second turn in the door lock with the key from unlocking all doors.

The LED issue is tied with radio interference (on my Camry I will get FM Radio static with my led brake lights). you do have a strange issue when it is tied to actual physical buttons not working...

I have one door giving me grief the last couple of weeks. The front passenger door randomly doesn't work. When it doesn't, it's a pain to get into. Everyone knows how big these cabs are and the gigantic center console doesn't allow you to simply reach over from the driver seat and unlock it for someone. I have to open the console to lower the height and then it's still a stretch. I've tried unplugging the door lock switch and cleaning it good with CRC electrical cleaner but it only lasts a day or so. I just bought a driver door actuator for my wife's Highlander because I'm tired of her complaining about it but haven't installed it yet. It's like the two vehicles talk to one another in the driveway every night and plan which one will crap out for the day.

I’m beginning to have issues like this with my 15 CM. It’s not a chronic issue. Sometimes it works great. Any suggestions? I think I should just take it to the dealer.

Just gonna start leaving mine unlocked...it’s turned into a circus act trying to get into either of our Toyotas. Today it’s one lock tomorrow it’s another. Getting tired of crawling across from the opposite side to manually lock/unlock.
