    I just bought an 05 tundra and it’s turning out to be more of a project than I thought. My first problem is that the door is broken where the door holder attaches (see picture)

    anybody ever had success rigging something in that spot to hold the door holder in place? I’m thinking a thick piece of metal outside of the screws may do the trick. I don’t have the budget to replace the door

    Looks like you need to replace the door check or it’s cover plate (if that is a separate item).

    There is a guy that sells reinforcement plates and kits to fix this. I'm trying to remember his name.

    @FrenchToasty do you remember?

    Ha! My terrible memory strikes again. I think it's valiant Guy George on Instagram but I deleted the app so I can't check.
    That's the plate but you need the repair kit too. If you have Facebook you can ask in the 1st gen page.

    They mention it in the last paragraph on that link you posted.

    I have this exact same problem....after fixing the door check. That I think is probably what caused it to break, old truck just couldn't handle a functioning door check.

    I haven't decided yet if I want to make a metal plate, or weld. Probably just fabricate a plate.

    I ordered the one that is not for welding since the weld plate is sold out. Will let you all know how it works out. Thank you all for the help!

    Best of luck, those no-weld plates are quite a bit smaller than the weld-in plates. Not sure it will cover the damage you have.

    It took a few attempts, but it’s working!

    My first two attempts, I hammered the metal back as close to the original spot as I could, but it was too warped for the nuts to reach the door check. Luckily I had more checks than I needed from that salvage vehicle cause I stripped the bolts on two of them trying to force them to fit.

    I emailed customer service from firstgentundras.com and Cameroon was kind enough to send me some special nuts he had for this situation (pictured below). There was enough metal there for it to hold and it’s working well now. Hopefully there’s enough support for the door to hold up over time and I won’t have to go to a welder. Thanks everyone for your advice, and thanks firstgentundras.com for the great customer service!
