Does size on tires make the difference or just the weight?

So I'm running 295 70 18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers E load and truck seems to be down shifting when going up certain small slopes on highway.....if I go to 295 70 18 in Non E load but only weigh 51 lbs where my Nittos weigh 68 lbs.....will the truck stop down shifting and also not waste as much fuel?

I think it’s all about weight, rotational mass etc....but I’m curious now as well

I feel like it’s both. Size for sure will do it. But the weight adds resistance too. And not the same type as just throwing weight in the bed. Interested to see what someone will say with more knowledge.

I can get Nitto Terra Grappler G2 295 70 18 that weigh 51 lbs instead but only if the down shifting and fuel go back to when I had 275 70 18 few yrs ago

Both. Size is going to cause downshifting because the rpms are too low for your current speed. Weight makes it feel sluggish. Just going to e rated stock size tires my truck was much slower

255/70 is about the same diameter as 275/65

The one thing is. If your current 295s have lots of tread left, you’re going to lose more in resale than you will save in gas

With a rotating mass the diameter is also very important. It's why some differentials have carrier breaks.

Just bite the bullet and regear Rica. Since you only have 2wd shouldn’t cost too much. You might change tires and still have the same problem and will end up spending a small fortune on tires.

    That's my
That's what I didnt really want to do though.....i would love to but I'm afraid who ever does the work might not do it right and have problems later.....my truck has always ran hood ams no issues I would hate to ruin something by re gearing.....
