Do 275/70/18's make my truck better at truck stuff?

    I have stock size (275/65/18) E rated wrangler adventure Kevlar that were on the truck when I bought it.

    I am not planning on lifting in the immediate future(not in the next 2 years) but will need tires in the next 12 months.

    I've read that 275/70's fit without leveling.

    My question is, tire model being equal, are 275/70's going to make a positive difference in navigating off road mud, ruts, hills etc or positive enough to justify the MPG loss...or are they mostly for looks?

    95% looks if you have E rated tires already, but 275/70/18 may actually be slightly cheaper too

    Edit: I wouldn't expect you'd lose much in the way of MPG that wasn't already lost from switching to the E rated 275/65/18

    I bought the falken wildpeak at3w a couple months ago in 275/70/18 load range E. I paid $788 out the door mount and balance. I have no lift on my truck and there was no rubbing anywhere. I lost about 1mpg in the size change.

    They increase your ground clearance by about 3/8s of an inch

    and decrease your MPG by .02mpg and 0-60 times go up .016 seconds

    No. Smaller rims, more rubber is what you want.

    Yes. You're gaining a whole inch in diameter. You might not really notice it but it will make a substantial difference wheeling.

    Since you already have E rated in stock size you aren't going to lose that much mpg's. If they were stock p rated to the E it would be a much bigger difference. They will give you more sidewall which is good for off road. They look better on the Tundra also and the price is similar. The only thing that might rub is the back corners of the skid plate at full lock. Easily remedied by slightly bending the corner.

    Thanks for the responses.

    Are there any other negatives I'm missing? Is it an issue in the snow or mud having less clearance in the wheel well? Chains still fit in the rear?

    Its not THAT much taller. No clearance issues.

    oil changes are easier (I use a large plastic bin to catch oil)
    looks better

    downside is worse mileage, slower, less brake effectiveness, less tow capacity.

    I've been the owner of my tundra for 11 yrs now when I purchased the truck kept it stock for a year then I went with 275 70 18s then next set was 285 65 18 and my last set was 295 70 18 the look was great but the power loss was noticed right away and the mpgs were changed drastically but it all happened gradually now I went back to the stock size Michellin LTX at2 275 65 18 and the power is back and absolutely love it also the ride quality is great and even better the Mpgs are now back I lost up to 5 mpge with my Nittos Ridge Grapplers that were 295 70 18 like I said the look was great but I dont do much off road so not worth it
