Distance to empty indicator changed with new battery

    Something weird happened. I just replaced my battery (95K miles). Started engine and it shut down. Started again and ran normally. OK. Something about the fuel system according to mechanic. Went to fill up with gas and distance to empty indicator shot up from around 300 miles remaining (which it's done since I owned it and I always thought seemed to low) to 425.
    It was like replacing the battery reboot the computer. Is that what happened?

    It will take awhile to adjust; after replacing or disconnecting the battery it will rest to default and normalize / readjust over the course of a week or so.

    Alot of them
    It will readjust as mentioned, and it's only an estimate. Most dont even pay attention to it. As far as starting, it is normal for the first start to immediately shut down after a battery is reconnected.

    It just reset the ecu due to power interruption. It will level back out to what it was before after a couple fill ups. Don’t get your hopes up. A miracle did not occur.

    As others said, it resets the computer when you remove the Negative.

    However, I found it takes awhile (many tanks) to go back to normal and I was averaging around 3,500 miles per month before I sold the truck.

    So if we want better fuel efficiency, just replace battery or remove negative battery connection!

    it will save all your radio presets, your ecu settings, and any custom tune (which is why i bought it).
