Today I went to Discount tire and they would not remove my 40” tire from my beadlock wheel. The beadlock ring was removed, and all I needed was the inner bead broke and tire removed from the wheel.

They refused. Anyone know why this policy has changed?

I went across the street and had Walmart do this difficult task:rolleyes: for 5.00.

Kind of pissed me off a little, and this specific Discount tire attitude has me thinking about finding another tire center for my business.

Anyone else have issues like this?

Pretty sure there is a Discount Tire member isn't there? Perhaps he/she could shed light on the policy?

Damn you @Black Wolf! Totally stole my thunder. :pout:

I figured you’d do something like that yourself. Knowing how handy you are.

Oh I can mount them pretty easy, but removing them is a bit harder. When I had my Walker Evans beadlocks, any tire company would cringe at those SOBs. Most of the time it would take a vehicle lift with a car on it to break the inner bead.

I’ve seen a pretty rudimentary way of people breaking the bead. 2 x 10 and a truck LOL

Last I checked, dismounting a tire from a beadlock wheel that is already missing the front ring would not be against our “Best Practices.”
It was long a gray area on what could or could not be done with beadlocks.

I’ve been on a medical leave of absence for almost 5 months now so, something could have changed.

I’m sorry they refused to help you out.

I’ll see if I can get some clarification and will report back.

    Assistant Manager. ;)

I actually dismounted and mounted a set for a friend of mine in my driveway.
I used my hilift under my tundras hitch to break the beads. A bit sketchy to say the least.

Edit: I sent a text to one of my co workers and he will send me the info tomorrow.

Thanks @Scuba ! Discount Tire is very reliable but maybe certain techs aren't familiar enough to deal with beadlocks. This might be the case unless something has changed like you mentioned

Discount refused to pop the inner bead for me once a few years ago and never went back to them. Said they couldn't touch beadlocks in general. That was the last time I went to discount in general lol

I also sent a message to corporate asking these questions.

I know we live in sue happy times, but I just can’t see why a wheel-tire combo like this, off the vehicle, almost disassembled already is a problem. I can see mounting and installing since this actually takes some time and “know how”....

Makes sense. Disassembling should not be a "sue" them issue.

I would rather them NOT do it if they aren't sure about it.

Maybe they were confusing it with split rim or something and heard the tire school tales of someone taking their head off

I believe it is up to the manager in general.

Our local manager is such a great guy. Theyve always went above and beyond every time I've been. It's made me a loyal customer.

That’s what I love to hear!
Discount takes great care of us (the employees) and we run on the motto Happy Employees = Happy Customers.

Still waiting on a response from my co worker.

Okay, so, I got a copy of the policy regarding beadlock wheels and we are unable to dismount beadlock wheels.

We can break the rear bead if you carry in your wheel and tire assembly.

When I ran split rims, which I did for years, I broke the beads and pushed em off with my hi-lift all the time. Those were not as tight as the rim seats on bead locks though.

weird. Wally World does it for 5.00. The way they look at it, half the work is already done. Lol
