I have black ceramic rims and over the Winter they got a buildup of gunk mostly from dirt or whatever and car washes don't help and unless I sit down there by hand and scrub them for God knows how long I can't figure out how to get them clean. Any recommendations? Would gas work?

    Not sure at this point.
Have you ever tried a heavy duty degreaser?

    Gas?

I wouldn't put gas purposely on my rims, let along stock rims.

Elbow grease, wheel brush, soap & warm water. And don't let them have an entire winters worth of build up next year.

What about Dawn and a good wheel brush?

No on gasoline. Dawn soap, soft brush, cleaner/degreaser if needed.

That is the issue with black wheels, especially a matte finish. They are hard to keep looking good unless you keep after them, weekly washing. Be careful with cleaners and make sure you rinse really well. Black wheels stain easily from cleaners left, etching, and even will get white spots from hard water that etches into the finish.

    Here is what I recommend...
    Hit it with thisdownload (2).jpg

    Then this

Then work it with something like this

Then flood rinse with garden hose and allow to dry in the shade.

If your wheels are a matte finish I would recommend coating with Carpro DLux. Works wonders on my wife’s 4Runner with TRD pro wheels.
