Saw this local Toyota dealer with a neon green TRD Pro 4Runner and figured they would have a lead on 2022’s. The salesman was helpful in showing me the incoming trims and prices. However, he proceeded to tell me they’ll be marking up their allocated 2022s by 15-20k!! He said they had a TRD pro lunar rock a few weeks ago and sold it for $75k. These people are crazy and price gouging. Said that 4Runner was $79k with mark up.

I agree with you. He was also a young braggadocious salesman so I think he was half pumping himself and dealership up. I really don’t believe anyone would pay that but he kept saying that’s the current market. Initially he said 10-15k over MSRP. Regardless, I would never pay a dime over MSRP for any vehicle.

Same people that pay 10s of thousands of $$$ for an over priced home (that's way over the appraised value) only to end up upside down when the housing market takes a dump again..:eek2:

I'm hoping to keep my 2014 another 5 to 7 years.
Then maybe find a good deal on a used low mileage 2022 and up Platinum or 1794...

Hey come on now! I created my “Poor man’s” TRD Pro from an SR base model. I just didn’t have the stamped bed panels. However, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I think the crazy ones are not the dealers but the people who are paying these prices. They are enabling the dealers to do the crazy markups.

Why in the world are we knocking the dealers when it’s individuals paying these prices?
If someone walked up to me and said, I’ll pay you 10-20k more than normal, I’m selling to them all day.
    It’s called a free market.

My local dealer has a lunar rock pro on the lot for 72k. They sold a black pro with 8k on the odometer in 1 day for 70k. As others have said it's not the dealer it's the buyer. I gladly take my business elsewhere

I really don’t GAF who buys a 2022 or what they pay. Have better things to worry about. I probably have better things to do than read this thread.

That specific dealer has done this before. I purchased a 1794 Edition years ago. While getting some maintenance done on it, i walked the lot and noticed their TRD Pros. They had market adjustments of about $15k, this was back in 17-18. Doesn't surprise me that they're doing this again. Just go to one of the dealers that isn't owned by the same company.

What exactly makes a pro different then a loaded sr5 with a good after market lift? Besides some pro stamped panels?

    Supply and demand.

When they are selling fewer because less are coming off the manf line, the gap needs to be made up somewhere.

People have to put food on the table and pay leases on dealership properties

But less aren’t coming off the production line. They are at full production. I can see 2021’s going for over msrp they have a limited availability.

These are frustrating times and everyone here makes good points from both perspectives.

We are a debt driven society. Debt is cheap from an interest rate perspective and the terms are so long that these insane markups can be structured in a way that makes the monthly payment manageable.

That said, I focus on the price of the vehicle not the monthly payment and would never take on a long term note on a vehicle - but everyone is different.

if this is true, then that is proof of money supply being the problem. A combination of way too many new dollars being inserted monthly into the pool for almost 2 years now AND interest rates being too low for 20 years

100% agree. All these dollars being created = inflation and suppressed rates incentivizes debt.

Oh me too, just laughing at people who call that a Faux Pro. If I wanted leather seats and cared about a bed stamp saying pro on it (or having any badging on my truck at all) I would have paid for a pro

it's end of the year, some people have to buy a truck or they would end up paying more taxes for their business next year so they are fully aware that they are overpaying but well, either pay the government or pay the dealership and get a truck...

That only works if the gvwr is over a certain amount and the last time I sold trucks (20 years ago) you had to go 3/4 to get it

You guys can blame people paying all you want but clearly the dealers are making a monopoly out of it. It’s a double edged sword in that if you’re in the market for a 2022 or dying for a 2021 TRD pro then most likely your only option is to pay what dealers are charging in your area or fly to find a deal.

To the guy stating he doesn’t care what people are paying. The point of this post was to show everyone the screen shot of invoice pricing vs. MSRP of the 2022 with the added caveat from one dealer that they will mark up their allocated trucks 10k-20k. For myself this info was helpful cause I’m looking to either go full upgrade to my current truck and do front/rear adjustable vertex coilovers with new tires or wait another month and check out the 2022. If everyone is charging $75k for a loaded platinum/1794 or TRD Pro. Then I will be upgrading my current 18 more than it is with creature comforts and possibly a larger lift or SC and hold this bad boy for a long time

The cure for high prices is high prices. They can charge what they want. Competition will take care of it. People will either buy it, buy it from a more reasonable dealer, change brands, or not buy at all. No need for hand wringing as long as our society still offers choice and fosters competition.

I recently gave up on trying to find LR trd pro for msrp, most wanted around 10k over. The last dealer in NY wouldn't even sell to me being out of state. Figure I'd get a civic type r and it's just as bad, at least 10k over. Tomorrow I'll see what the sti's are going for.

Monthly payments. Anyone can afford 20K over msrp over the span of a 45 year finance agreement!

My story: Currently have a 17 4Runner TRD Pro. 54K mileage. I keep it in very good condition and yes it gets muddy and lots of off the road especially this time of the year. Had no intention of selling. Went into local dealer to pick-up new windshield wiper inserts. Lot was 90% empty. In five minutes had the sales manager engaging me on trade-in. I almost fell over on the offer just south of $40K in writing.
So down to business and ordered a Tundra Limited TRD OR. No ADM on sale price and they let me keep the 4Runner until the Tundra arrives.

Lots of conflicting information on the internet regarding production delays and delivery times for new Tundra's. Last night read two articles from supposed reputable sources. First 2022 Tundra's already have a year+ of orders. The other is that Toyota pivoted focus to support full Tundra production supporting the new rollout. Said Toyota had stockpile of hard to get items in prep for this. Based on dealer allowing me to keep the 4Runner-would think I will see the Tundra end of December - Early January.

    Keep you all posted.
