I'm sorry I realize this is a a dumb question. I've been checking my oil in my 4.7 and I swear the dipstick is too short. First off it only has two lil round dimples where the oil should be able to be seen which everyone I've had check it says the same thing you can't tell if there is any oil in it at all. So if anyone knows the correct length or if I should should just go ahead and drill the dimples through I'd appreciate it. I'm gonna call advance to see just dislike them overpriced dicks thanks if anyone has an answer.

I've heard in the past some people say the stick is too short to pick up oil. I don't think you're alone on this.

Mine works fine but after a change it can be hard to see the oil. I will measure mine on lunch break today and post.

Out of curiosity, how much oil have you put in and which oil filter are you using?

There was a TSB from Toyota on short dip sticks on some years/versions. New oil is hard to read even on a proper dipstick. Flipping it over and reading both sides helps.

Yeah it is! I have to touch it to know if the oil is on there or not.

Mine measures 23 3/16" from the tip to the area where it seats on the dipstick tube.

Here is a pic of the tip for an additional reference point.

Just the tip. And remember now, it's not how deep you fish, it's how you wiggle your worm.

And PHM is correct. Another member here had that issue and I feel like he got ribbed and chastised a bit until the info about the TSB for too-short-dipstick was shown.
