Dinner, valet service, and a little weed on the side.

So this is a new one for me. Had dinner at a nice restaurant down in Dana Point tonight. I normally avoid valet service like the plague, but we were late with my 3&5 year olds and street parking on the bluff is impossible.

Come out after dinner to a nice strong odor of weed.. I don’t think anything of it until I realize the smell is coming from my truck. Apparently, one of the attendants decided to use my truck to light up a joint…

Called the manager, she pushes responsibility to a third party valet service. Manager of the valet service is likely culprit and is waaaaay to animated about the whole thing. Finally call a sheriff out and file an incident, though no charges could be filed as no physical evidence remained, though they corroborated with me. Will look into connecting with the region manager tomorrow for more resolution.

that said… as I don’t smoke weed or anything else… how do I get the smell out??? I’m airing it out overnight but every time I close the thing up the smell gets super strong again.

anybody know what “good luck Kevin” is supposed to mean? Parting words from the accused attendant.

With an incident report on it, I'd be pushing to get it professionally cleaned/deionized on their dime. Especially because you would pretty readily have the restaurant backing you with threats of dropping the valet service if you are going to spread the word and drop bad reviews. It's not something super simple, and the Dbag obviously had zero regrets with the BS parting comment.

So if it smells permanently he was probably smoking a blunt not a joint. Weed wrapped in an emptied out cigar. I smoke joints and vape in all my vehicles and none of them smell like weed to anyone that doesn’t smoke. I don’t use any products in my interior but a wet(water only) microfiber. If he did smoke a joint and it smells. Look for the roach. Basically the end of it. Might have fell to the floor or in between the seats. Good luck. That blows and validates me never wanting to valet any of my vehicles.

 

Plenty of weed use around here. I grew up around it. I’ve grown it. I don’t care to smoke it, but an edible here and there isn’t any different than having some drinks in my eyes. but you don’t do that shit in someone else’s personal space unless they invite you to.

it’s probably a good thing you called the sheriff. I’d have been struggling not to just use his face as a hammer on the concrete after busting his nose. That sorta disrespect hits insta-rage for me.

If the valet company doesn’t step up with getting your truck cleaned and de-skunked, I’d be following up with letters to the restaurant (they still hire the valet company), and the valet company, and hitting up their social media with comments along with any other avenue that hits their bottom line with bad publicity. Maybe I’m petty, but I also don’t like to be disrespected.

Smell doesn’t stick around like cigs, so that’s good. I smoke weed like my two pack a day Gpa smoked Camel Wide straights. If it smells in the truck the next day it’s cuz I left a pipe, roach, sumthin. Likely as stated above it was a blunt, or a joint, sumthin that leaves a smell. The Ozium suggested is great and there are many copy cats these days that work well.

Due to heavy resin, weed can leave a film but not after one time. But if that’s a worry, best ever way to clean glass (mine gets real foggy from heavy weed use over time) is the Mr Clean sponge thingy. Lil white thing you get wet a lil bit, it’s magic. Oh! Magic Eraser! Boom. Clean the glass with it, wipe down with a lint free towel to dry and it’s good to go.

Goodness sake just get a paper towel and put a bunch of vinegar on it and set it in the truck,, or get one of those cans of car smellems in berry scent and leave the windows up for a day and no more smell. Vinegar for a couple hours on a paper towel should work.

 

A cup of vinegar sitting in the cup holder overnight,and also some damp vinegar rags will help absorb the odor

 

You can get an ozone generator from Amazon for about 70 bucks. It will do the trick, and it’s a handy thing to have anyway. Works great if ever needed in your home from flooding, water leaks, fire, etc.

Just be careful with it.

 

Just thought I would update…

~12hours after, had left the windows cracked overnight. In the morning virtually no smell remaining.

~48hours after, had a couple trips, but have had the windows closed due to our mountain weather. Smell has returned but is minor

~96hours minor periodic lingering smell, at this point nothing to be concerned about.

Called the area supervisor today regarding the issue, more to inform him and give him my side of the story. He was very quick to be defensive of his employee, the employee track resorts and that there was no evidence of an issue. Considering I was not asking for restitution, I would say he handled it very poorly. To me, as a business owner, it’s always most important to “listen”… his tone was simply argumentative.

Finally, you people suggesting I put open containers of vinegar or comet are crazy. No way I would mess with bleach (comet) or an acetic acid in an open container in my truck… lol. I am going to pickup some ozium or febreeze and give the interior a good wipe down, but at this point, I don’t think anything additional is necessary for the smell. The disrespect on the other hand is a whole other subject… I guess I’ll have to talk to Karen about that.

 

The supervisor defends the guy's track record and doesn't address the issue at hand - no evidence of an issue? Nice - at least he's living the dream. Maybe his supervisor has a shred of sense.

I hoped you blasted them on social media, insta, fb, yelp, etc. Also not sure what state you are in but ozone machines can be had for $50-70 and are useful. Some states don't allow shipping of these units. Most decent car detail shops have these and the cost is similar to have them run it in your car.

 

No... not my style to blast them and try to ruin reputation. As a business owner, I know how frustrating it is to have people blast you, justified or not. Not like any of it does any good.
TBH it took about 2 weeks for the smell to fade completely. I don't hold grudges well and just moved on, I said my peace and if they can't learn from it than that's on them. Never again will I valet there though... lol.
