Annoying squeak in the rear end. Not an engine (coasting with engine off) squeak. Related to drive train I put the rear end on jack stands and put it in gear. Related to the revolution of the drive shaft. I have the zero fittings packed with grease. I sprayed WD-40 and penetrating oil all over the area. Stethoscope not real clear but sounds like the front of the rear diff housing. Anyone ever have similar issues?

A squeak in that location can be the first sign of a dying u-joint. Especially if it is a sealed one with no grease fitting.

Rubber type squeak? Rear u joint? If it’s in the rear diff I would think it would be more of a metal sound, chatter or clunk. Could also be the pinion seal.

Mice like to harbor up this time of year. Could be a Fast and Furriest friend?

Pinion deal could be the issue. I can’t eliminate the u joints yet. Thanks for the input. I did check the gear oil and it’s full and never has been changed. I didn’t want to change it until I can eliminate the diff or the pinion seal / bearing.

There’s a dust seal on the outside of the diff just behind the pinion flange. They can get bent and produce a noise like what you’re describing similar to a bent brake backing plate.

Thanks. There is a partially dislodged seal on the front of the pinion. I’ll dig in tomorrow.

They can get dirt and junk wedged in there sometimes. Here’s mine.. barely bent as well.
