Looking to buy a 1st gen Tundra. I've only driven a few so far... I was warned that the turning radius on Tundra's was, umm, large. The first one we drove, 2003 double cab seemed to have a better turning radius than expected (better than my son's Lexus RX300). I just drove a 2005 double cab and the turning radius seemed WAY bigger than the 2003.
Both double cab, short bed with off-road package.
Am I imagining things or does the 05 have a worse turning radius than the earlier years?

There is no such thing as a 2003 Double Cab...were they both Access Cabs?

Battleship Steering comes to mind when turning my 2002 Access Cab (suicide doors).

The 03 was an access cab. Did the 05 have real rear doors, or suicide doors?

If the 05 was an actual DC (04-06 only with 4 full size doors) yes they have a huge turning radius.

03 was likely an Access Cab truck (00-06 with 2 full and 2 half suicide doors).

Maybe the first one was an 04 double cab not 03. Maybe I don't have the name exactly right. 4 front hinged doors, has a B pillar, door handles on all 4 door set to the rear of the door, all 4 doors open independently of the others. Just like most 4 door sedans. All the Tundras I've driven have been this configuration.

Must have been an 04...can't imagine why the turning radious would be different unless something was wrong with one of them....from the brochures...2005/6 should be the same, I just couldn't find a 2005 brochure.

Since they were both DC trucks there are some variables. Correct alignment, tire size, wheel offset, can all affect the turning radius.

ANYTHING has better turning radius than an RX300.
I work at Lexus and the RX300 literally has the worst turning radius of any passenger vehicle I have ever driven.

Thanks @speedtre for the chart, that's great info.

Yes, it must have beeb an 04, not an 03. And my memory must be off. Work stress and all. At least I still have a job!

We call the RX300 "The Good Ship Lexus".

47'! Damn that's a big bitch. I had a CRX back in the day. I could flip a bitch on a residential street and still not be close to the curb.

So yeah, like fester said, could be something funky in the suspension. Bad rack not letting it fully turn or something.

My little 2007 Tundra needs only 39' curb to curb.
