I purchased a 2018 Tundra CrewMax SR5 TSS over the weekend. Need to put a bed cover on it.

Previously, I have had the BakFlip G2 and liked it, but wanted to know what the difference is between the G2 and MX4. I have a local dealer who can install the G2 for $795 and the MX4 for $849.

Besides the differences here, is there anywhere I can buy these cheaper and install myself?

I believe different finish and the mx4 holds more weight on top of it.

The big difference is that that with the g2, you have to lift the cover to close the tailgate. With the mx4, you can close the tailgate with the cover down. You can save a bit of money and just remember to lift the lid first.

I’m going to look at an MX4 Saturday. Has light hail that isn’t visible in the pictures. Guy is asking $500.00
Figured I’d it looks decent I’d try for 400. You guys think that’s worth it? Here is one of the pics.

Yes. My mx4 leaked pretty bad. And rivets rusted. I got rid of it 4 months after I put it on. Crap in my humble opinion.

I have a Lomax and very little water gets in after a car wash. It's also very sleek looking, I really like it.

For the price, I was disappointed. I put on a Diamondback and love it. Night and day with quality, utility, and looks (in my humble opinion).

Can't speak for the MX4 but the G2 is easily hail damaged. Very thin aluminum.

The differences are finish: G2 is more of a gloss finish vs MX4 matte. And function. You have to lift the first section before closing the tailgate on the G2. For me this was a non issue. I was able to save over $100 by going the G2 route and I have had ZERO leaks, where I have heard people complain about the MX4 leaking.

I have four kids, I need to invest wise and with great flexibility. I need to be able to put suitcases in the bed and keep them dry.

I also have a kid who is active in baseball. Between sport equipment and folding chairs it’s nice to secure everything and not worry about theft. We also take a lot of road trips and I always keep our luggage in the bed. Very happy with my G2

    Thank
$100 on a $1000 invest or finish is not a deal breaker..I do like the convenience of not having to open the cover in order to open the gate but not at the cost of compromising water leaks. Been that most people stated leaks at the tailgate with the mx4 that seems to make a real difference. thank you everyone for all the feedback.. I was looking at the extang 2.0 but they have leaks too, I spoke to their customer service department.

You still liking your lomax? is your model the version they corrected with better seals? I am torn between the RuggedCover E-Series or this Lomax.. i like the low profile, but it seems susceptible to easy damage... would love your take on it. thanks.

I do still like my Lomax. Pretty good about not getting water back there. I liked the Backflip and wondered if it was better but chose the Lomax because I liked the look. It's holding up pretty well and my only disappointment is when I bought the new truck I told the dealer not to take it off but they did and they threw it in a corner and where the rubber feet folded over on itself it rubbed/scratched some. It's not a real bad scratch but I'm paranoid about stuff like that. I usually put a towel down when I need to take it off so I don't scratch it. I love how easy it is to take off. Installation to about 15 minutes and was super simple.

@JoeDenver thanks buddy. pretty sure this is the route I want to go. I like how clean it looks. I did call lomax cause i was curious if i could "line-x" the top. they did say that would void the warranty.. so that might be something id do after the warranty is up. He did say he has heard of folks wanting to try to line the regular lomax but has not heard the results. He has definitely seen the ProSeries (diamond plated) line-x'd. Thanks again for taking your time to post pics. You still very pleased with it?

I still like the look and it's pretty good about NOT getting water inside. As far as theft, people can take the top if they get in but it would take a few minutes to take off the track. I keep my truck in the garage so if it ever was stolen they would have to do it out in the open. I wouldn't put it past a thief. Probably not as secure as a Leer fiberglass type but they are also not as versitile to take on and off. I can take mine off by myself. Easy enough to install that you can do it yourself.

Hope this help with your decision.
