I am looking to upgrade from my 2007 4.7 4X2 to a 5.7 4X4. Is what is the advantage to going from 2nd gen to 3rd gen. I am not hard set on 3rd gen I have been very happy with my present vehicle but I have discovered that sometimes I have needed a 4X4 and since I will replacing it I am looking at 2nd and 3rd gen. Thanks

if you go 3rd gen: get the bigger gas tank and the LEDs headlights. Only things that are worth the upgrade imo. In your case also going to 5.7L and 4x4 is a big plus.
now you can get LEDs headlights for the gen 2s so it's really up to just the gas tank and the correct price.

Find a clean 2nd Gen Limited (black, of course) and do the Sequoia LED upgrade. Those trucks look soooo damned good.

Black and White are down the list of colors. I live in Oregon and with the rain 8 months of the year as sharp as these colors are my visuals would be so dirty. LOL I option for colors that hide dirt better. But given that with the right truck the color would not be an issue. :) Thx.

Differences are more cosmetic for exterior & interior, which do not interchange. The chassis & engine are the same.
Also you may find a few less aftermarket stuff for 2nd gens, exterior/interior.
Have heard some say that 2nd gens have more interior storage cubbies.

I will definitely call the next generation 4th just because a 2014 doesn't look like my truck. You can see alot of difference between the 2

For what it's worth, my biggest complaint in moving from a 2nd gen to a 3rd gen has been the seats... They were a lot more comfortable in my 2nd gen truck. I also had dual climate control in my 2nd gen SR5 base, my 3rd gen SR5 TRD O/R doesn't even have that. Not a huge issue for me though, just my wife!

Dual Climate Control, Dual Glove Boxes, Driver's Side Grab Handle, Illuminated Ignition Ring, Courtesy Lights in Doors, Amber Signal/Flashers, Sliding Console; all standard (and thoughtful) features on my 2010 SR5. Toyota needs to do one heck of a lot more than I've seen, to get me out of it for another Tundra.

Ahh, forgot about all those! When I switched from my 2012 to the 2019 I initially had a little buyers remorse because the 2019 went backwards in several areas. My 2012 was a 4.6L though and the new truck a 5.7L, so I was able to get over them pretty easily.

There's really nothing "better" about the 3rd gen other than the 38 gal tank which can be fitted into a 2nd gen. I think 2016 is when that tank became available. The safety features (safety sense) appeared in '18 I think.

They deleted some nice storage compartments when they did the 2014 face lift. Sometimes I miss my '07 but not my '10

I’m not familiar with the safety features of the 2nd gen, but I can tell you my 2016 has safety features that are very important to me. Blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, backup camera, and rear cross traffic alert. Like 831Tun said, 2018 added even more safety features. Also, while the 3rd gen trucks rear seats don’t recline, they do fold up.
