I received a newsletter, yesterday, from RockAuto.com and I asked them whether they had a forum for Tundra and Tacoma owners, where we could discuss maintenance issues with their staff, or maybe they might visit Tundras.com and participate with their knowledge base, etc. In response the answer came back that said:

"If you are the administrator or member of a forum and you would like to see your website featured in an upcoming newsletter and receive a discount code to share with your members, contact marketing@rockauto.com."
    ___________

Would I be out of line to respond to the affirmative by seeking their support? Not that it is given by any means. I would pursue it with Administration permission, and of course the members. Let me know...

TacomaWorld was already featured sometime last year I think, so no reason Tundras wouldn't be on board.

And they probably just give the standard 5% discount like they do everywhere else.

Well if OR18TRD speaks by proxy for five members besides himself, plus the additional members that have spoken up is any indication, the members like the idea and with no indications to the negative. Since Pinay has deferred, and I do not know who else represents the admin, I will await a sure sign. Further, I have no objections to the admin modifying my initial appeal to rockauto to fit the needs of this forum.

If the admin approves, and I go ahead with the appeal to rockauto, a message of support from the membership would add mightily to that appeal. In that, if I could simply indicate membership support as OR18TRD did, above, by listing the user names of those in agreement, with their permission, I believe it would have a positive and fruitful effect on the outcome.

xJuice...5% almost makes up for my sales tax. I'll take whatever I can get. I had planned on asking for a break in small item shipping over $50, exempting the heavy stuff, and hoping that it works for them. :playball:

I have, here, a rough draft that I propose be sent to rockauto.com, soliciting their participation in our forum, etc. It is a rough draft as I stated, needing further counsel and refinement from the membership and admin., and I bring it forward for discussion and revision as required. It is neither my part or purpose to dictate anything, and as a very junior member I only wish to take the baton that was given to me and make from it what can be, with your participation.
    _____________

[Last night after reading your newsletter, I sent a message to your customer service inquiring as to whether your firm had a forum for the different brands that are noted for their strong fan base, such as Toyota Tundra and Tacoma owners. I expressed my opinion that there was a strong need for a member of rockauto.com to participate either as a sponsor or a favored member of Tundras.com, adding such expertise as one would find with your staffs' knowledge base, to help answer questions and advise the Tundra owners as might be necessary. I am still of this opinion.

I received a message in return by Paul Z., wherein he stated I should take the matter up with your marketing staff. Paul brought up the possibility of a feature story about our group to be included in a future issue of your publication and that there might even be a discount extended to the membership of the forum. I took this short but gracious message of hope to my members and I was met with unanimous approval by all who answered.

None of us meet the financial measure of a Jay Leno - we struggle with the demands of family while we tend, as best we are able, to our other great passion, our Tundras. We are almost to the T, all working folk, a few of whom work on their Tundra for pleasure, but more as not are wrenching to keep their rigs on the road, serviceable and looking as well as our budgets can spare. Any help in this matter would be warmly welcomed for the goodwill it is, and surely to be reciprocated by an increasingly loyal customer base for rockauto.com. Were this to happen, along with a policy of orders over $50 shipped free by standard means, excepting those heavy and bulky parts requiring extra shipping costs, we might all benefit while beating back at the big dog on the block - Amazon. And while Amazon does in fact offer some discounts to the membership, we are not all so enamored by the giant that is slowly killing off retail and far too many small businesses that have been the backbone of American mercantile for the last three hundred years or so.

I am extending a welcome to Tundras.com on behalf of the membership and hoping you will join with us, and we to you, in a beneficial and warm relationship that lasts for many years to come.]

Just have them join and post a introductory thread. They can post he discount code there. Then have them contact Bob for potential vendor status. We will internally need to discuss before vendor status is given.

I don’t know them but just quick look appear to be an online only sales of auto parts and accessories from various vendors. Most likely they won’t have active support on the site and not a typical company qualifying for vendor status.

By all means take it away and see if she'll fly. Like I said I have no intention of interfering with your business or that of this forum. I was mostly interested in seeing if they would join the forum and add their knowledge to that which is already here in the experiences and skill sets of the members. I did drop the sponsorship possibility though making no commitments on the forum's part, as I can't speak for anyone but myself. It is here where I made the initial posting alerting all to what had transpired and asking for direction, while awaiting some kind of official acknowledgement from admin., whom I do not know by name, though it is becoming more clear. I hope something positive occurs as a result, something that fits for all parties.:hattip:

I've bought from rockauto before. They have good prices, but there isn't any customer support....by design, everything is automated.
I needed a torque converter clutch sensor for another car asap. I bought it, paid for fast shipping.....it took a wrong turn in shipping and went to HAWAII.....freaking Hawaii....I had to call my local Toyota parts Dept and pay $250 for one (rock autos was like $60 for aftermarket).
I tried to contact them but there's no one to talk to....just an automated return system....ended up having to pay to ship it back for a return. Not the end of the world but irritating.

I used them a lot several years when I was fixing up a 1989 Cherokee. I never had any issues and always got exactly what I ordered with reasonable shipping. I never had to call anyone so I have no clue what their customer service is like. I definitely saved some $ using rock auto.

    Cool, I hope they do.

I’ve ordered from them a couple times now and am a happy customer. I just installed the Powerstop coated brake kit on my mom’s Subaru last month, impressive so far, well machined rotors. Their shipping to Canada isn’t cheap, but all taxes, duty and brokerage are paid up front, so no surprises. Still saved me a good 20% over my local suppliers even with hefty discounts.

    Their selection is also wonderful.
