So I helped my sister in law negotiate a deal on a new 2019 Jeep Wrangler 2 weeks ago. Dealer said it will take 6-8 weeks for it to come in.
A couple of days ago she hears about the NCAP safety test giving it only 1 star. Now she doesn't want to buy the jeep as she plans to have kids here shortly and has had a head on collision in the past.

Do you think they will give her the deposit back? It says in the fine print that she cant even back out of the deal.

I've always known deposits to be refundable on vehicles. Toyotas anyway since that's all I've bought. Was anything ordered custom on the car? That's all I can think of that would make them balk at returning a deposit, even then I'd be shocked that they really won't return it.

I’ve been told in CO it is illegal to keep ones deposit even though our forms say it’s non refundable. The form is mostly used the ensure customer commitment.
You could apply the deposit towards a different vehicle they have in stock.

Nothing custom ordered on it. They just didn't have a black wrangler sahara with cold weather package so they ordered her one.
She's upset over it but I keep telling her not to be and that they will give it back to her.

    She will call them today.

I'd be surprised if she couldn't get her money back, especially if its nothing custom. Customer Service and Dealer Reputation will help them make that decision easy for them...I'm sure they don't want the potential for bad press if they dont refund the money.

Non refundable deposits tend to be on "non normal" vehicles that dealers would otherwise have trouble selling.

Just be ready for the salesman person to find a million ways to get you into another vehicle. So start practicing to say “no” a lot
