It's still early, but everyone living on the Gulf coast needs to start paying attention to this one.

Hope they are right about it weakening before landfall, because it looks like this thing is going to get pretty strong. Local meteorologist said the track should remain pretty consistent on this one, hoping it doesn’t shift East.

Already a Cat 4... I suppose the only bright side is that it's moving quite fast. Hopefully it doesn't stall anywhere.

6 Oct 2020 - 15:20 UTC ...RECENTLY RECEIVED DATA FROM A NOAA HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT DELTA HAS RAPIDLY STRENGTHENED INTO A CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE... As of 11:20 AM EDT Tue Oct 6 the center of Delta was located near 18.2, -82.7 with movement WNW at 16 mph. The minimum central pressure was 954 mb with maximum sustained winds of about 130 mph.

from everything i've seen as of now, it looks like it's going up Baton Rouge's throat. Looks like it'll make landfall around a Cat 1 or 2. But like we're all saying here, that's what Laura said. Then it went from a Cat 2 to almost a Cat 5 in 24 hours.

I think I would go through one of these once before I pack up and move out of Hurricane Alley. Why do people stay there?

Same could be said about California and the fires, Texas and Tornado Alley, anywhere you go, there's something.

I've been saying/thinking the same thing it seems like the folks who live in those areas are constantly going through this. I know its hard to think about moving somewhere else but at some point I'm sure people would just have enough of it and pack up and leave.

I've experienced several with differing experiences. Some you remember their names, most you dont. I recall Andrew, Ivan, Katrina, Rita, Gustav, Harvey; while some of these didnt hit where I live(d), they still stick with you. Its a crapshoot what actually happens. Harvey and Gustav are the only ones where I had enough damage to make a claim. Worst I've experienced was just being w/o power for a few weeks during Gustav and complete collapse of state infrastructure during Katrina and Rita. Harvey was unique because where I live now, we have a river on several sides and a levee. Contractors installed the check valves in the drainage backwards so the rear of the subdivision started to flood/fill like a bowl. Moved everything to the 2nd floor then went to a relatives house. Had to leave the wife's Pilot about a mile away from our destination due to water levels. Water got about 3' deep but didn't get into the house (from rising water). Came in from the roof instead. Guess what I'm saying is I wouldn't have a primary residence in Grand Isle or Galveston but generally speaking they aren't bad enough to move from the entire region.

I see where you're coming from; we also have Earthquakes in California - but I only really feel one every 10 years or so, and they're usually so minor that all it does it freak out the dogs. We are due for "The Big one" - but that's supposed to be a once in a lifetime thing, these hurricanes happen yearly, and now it seems multiple times per year. As for the fires - I say the same thing about people that life in areas that are high risk for fires. I live one city over from the recent "El Dorado Fire", I could see the flames from my house, the smoke sucked for a few weeks - but I still knew that there was no chance that my house would be damaged by it due to being so far from any high risk fuel sources.

I guess what I'm getting at is if my home was at risk year after year due to some natural disaster - I'd be gone. I do understand that the political climate isn't too appealing for most people here in California - but I've got all the guns I want, the taxes suck but I can go play in the snow in the morning, have a bonfire at the beach for sunset, and still hit Disneyland for a few rides and fireworks all in one day if I'd like.
That's a fair point, I have been to New Orleans once - but all I had was fast food the entire time I was there.
    Or so I have heard.

Yes, twice. Once as a tourist, it wasn't bad. Once on a business trip. One of the locals took me to a place on a corner in a residential neighborhood. One side was a bar, the other a restaurant with about 6 tables. I couldn't read the menu, so he ordered. It was a true feast. I'm a dyed in the wool Texan and a true TexMex fan, but I'd put up with a hurricane or two for real Cajun cooking.

That is generally the same as us on the Gulf Coast. I have been through at least a dozen hurricanes but only one has really caused me any significant trouble or cost: Katrina in 2005. Sally took down a 16' section of my privacy fence and I lost power for about 14 hours. I don't consider that significant. Yes, I have had a lot of debris cleanup (branches, etc.) for several of those storms, but that is part of the paradise down here. And I have to agree with @Fotnot - the food down here is AMAZING! Louisiana cooking is common even two states away in Alabama. And the seafood can't be any fresher!

Looking at consistency of forecast models and all, looks like I'll be spared the rough stuff. Also looks like it'll land as probably a Cat 2 and drop fairly quickly. Let's hope for everyone's sake

I feel for the folks in Louisiana, but I'm glad it is trending westward. Debris piles from Sally have not been picked up and are still lining both sides of my street. If it hit here that would be quite the mess!

LOTS and LOTS of trash is still everywhere and hasn't been picked up. The trash is all over our subdivision. I have a bunch of trash including blown in insulation bagged up that I have a feeling will be all over my yard when I come back home. I cut grass yesterday kinda short to make it easier to find and get the trash out my yard. It was tough last time since I cut my grass at about 3.25". I cut it at 2" yesterday haha

Wow! Your neighborhood might find it worthwhile to rent a dumpster with a lid that can be locked down. It would hold your existing trash and protect it from Delta.

This is where I am as of now. I'm staying in Houston, but have friends and family that have stayed. I took a screen shot of a video my neighbor that lives directly behind me (our houses are about 750' away). Its water ALL the way. Our subdivision NEVER floods. I'm built about 26" above the road, and am about the 2nd highest house in the sub. Here is also a screenshot of the radar showing how close the eye was to my house.
The blue dot is my house, but where the symbol is...that's about where my parents house is....that stayed.
Lake Charles area is having Satan's balls and a$$hole drug across it now. But since it's not New Orleans, no one gives a flying squirrel fart about it. Its just tough going from 1 hurricane to another with only about 6 weeks between.
My house got rain water in it within about 3 hours into it because my tarping and all flew off (I knew that was coming). I know cuz I have a moisture meter that works and sends us a text from the wifi. In the pic, my flood lights are on cuz I have a standby generator.
We'll get through it and it will be yet another story to tell our 3 young kids (4 and under) about the wonderful year of 2020.Screenshot_20201009-210745_The Weather Channel.jpg 20201009_210813.jpg

That doesn't count at all. To be honest, the food while great, isn't any better than anywhere else just different.
