    My dealer updated me yesterday.

    • Truck build completed.
    • I was sent the new VIN number
    • Pushed delivery date back 10 days. Now the 23rd of the month. Hopefully it will not be pushed back again
    • Sales guy stated they removed the spray in bed liner and the ball mount siting material shortages.
With a composite bed should I be concerned ? I thought I read that the composite does not go up the sides of the bed so is that not protected ? I am not hauling rock or heavy equipment of any kind. Maybe an ATV only. Thoughts ? I could care less about the ball mount. That saved me 100.00 completely over priced.

Spray in liner was added at the dealer on my truck and covered under the factory warranty.

You could always just take it to line x after you get the truck…..have them remove any bed treatments immediately

I had a composite bed in my Tacoma and never desired a bed liner on top of that. The only issue was that items would slide a little, but that’s an easy fix with a bed mat.

I'd say you better hang on to, or only buy, older gen models in that case. With the further prioritization of fuel efficiency, weight and cost reduction and improved sustainability, I feel that every mid size to half ton truck bed will be composite in the very near future. The good news is that I also feel that the manufacturing process of the composite materials will continue to improve and meet the majority of users expectations. Admittedly that still may not include you and that would be unfortunate.

My vin just disappeared from the Toyota Vehicle Spec lookup page. I too had the spray in bed liner, and am afraid it will be pulled and a new VIN issued. I’m thinking the truck is built and new VIN assigned, just not updated with dealer yet, or it just went into production. Some research said that the VIN disappears but usually when its the temp VIN (containing a letter in the last digits). Mine was a full VIN, so not sure what that means.

My understanding is that you have a temp VIN used for a "build". Once built a "real" VIN is issued.

Here was the first VIN I received
    2022 TUNDRA 4X4
    8376 - 4x4 CrewMax 1794 Edition V6 (10 Speed Automatic)
    Model: 8376
    VIN: 5TFMA5DB1NX48B581

The second VIN I received when my sales guy notified me that the Truck has actually been built the last 6 digits were completely different.

    Hope this helps.

and I have a definitive VIN then. Dealer says arriving 15th-20th, so I’ll be curious to see. I have the composite in the Tacoma now, its fine for me with the heavy rubber liner laid down even if they removed it.
