I put on my 10in BAM Exhaust

The biggest I had was a 1.25in hole saw so I used that for the resonator

I don’t think I have everything lined up exactly on the mark,as I didn’t see the video about the resonator install until afterwards.

I plan on taking the rear tail pipe off and seeing what’s up sometime in the next few weeks And making sure everything is aligned. Hopefully i didn’t screw up too badly

I still have a lot of low end drone and resonating in the cabin under engine load.

For those of you who did no resonator at first, then installed the resonator, did you notice a huge difference?

Im hoping that re aligning everything and getting a bigger hole quiets the drone down significantly. (And that i didn’t screw up my tailpipe too bad)

The wife just told me she hates my truck now. It wakes the kids up when i crank it up for work in the morning

Get the proper sized hole saw, I think it's a 2".
Not sure how you are going to center it on the pipe already having a 1 1/4" hole in place.

10" isn't that loud, certainly not loud enough to wake children just from starting the truck, unless they are sleeping in the back seat.
I started with an 7" and swapped it for a 10".

    If all fails, you have 2 options;
    1. Ask Keith to swap your 10" for a 12" or even a 14". You just have to pay shipping for the new one and return of the old one. It cost me $180 when I swapped mine.
    2. Put your stock muffler back on, buy Keith's resonator hole cover and sell your BAM on the forum.

The tailpipe resonator (with 2 inch hole) and properly aligned does make a difference with drone on the inside of the truck. The sound at the tailpipe will still be authoritative though.

I plan on taking the rear tailpipe off and checking alignment/making the right hole sometime this week

There are multiple options going forward

I think it’s just an error on my part just trying to rush things while i had time without babies in the way

it can be fixed either way

i was mostly wanting input about how big a difference the resonator actually made

I don’t know if this will make sense, but from my experience there’s 2 elements to the sound - the burbly throaty v8 sound that is a mix of low and mid tones (and highs if you have a raspy exhaust, which the 10 inch is not) and a dominating deep frequency. The resonator gets rid of most of that dominating deep frequency without effecting the v8 sound too much. You’ll mostly notice it from inside the truck - not as much outside.

I bought the 8" and drove for a few weeks w/o resonator. A bit too much on my short commute...particularly cruising in the 22-2500 rpm range. I put the resonator on and it made a HUGE difference. Love it. I can now listen to music or a podcast w/o the overpowering drone. Truck still sounds way better than stock

    Thanks for the input guys

I’ll pay more attention to my rpm/speed and sound while on my short commute and see if i can narrow down anything specific drone wise

I understand what you guys are saying about tones.

I truly believe it’s my error with the Resonator that’s causing my excessive drone

I don’t mind the outside sounds of the truck,as long as I’m not hearing the low droning inside

I am still getting adjusted from having stock exhaust as well

Thanks for everyone’s explanations and ideas

If it wakes your kids up when you crank the truck, I don’t think the resonator is going to cancel that sound out. I have a 10” without the resonator. My kids and wife haven’t even noticed it while driving. May need a new wife.

I have what is probably the quietest BAMuffler system ever made, as expected it's still louder than stock even with a drone killing resonator that is 6" longer than Keith's standard resonator.

Is your tail pipe full length, or has it been shortened?

It appears to be the stock one that cane on my 07 CrewMAX

If I have the time this afternoon i plan on checking out the tail pipe and resonator

Well i took the tail pipe off and made the proper sized hole.

it still drones like crazy. The echo is killing my head.

I can deal with the louder exhaust tone coming from the tail pipe

I can’t handle the drone inside the cab

Hmm...that's strange. Can you take pics? Also, not sure if it matters but does the resonator kinda point upwards?
I have a 10", drove it for about a week or 2 without the resonator and then put it on, was definitely a difference I can tell and I don't have any crazy drone like yours but more of a nice hum while speeding up

Maybe I should call it a hum. I dunno.

But whatever it is,it’s excessive and definitely not pleasant

If I barely touch the gas pedal or idle it’s a nice even tone you can’t even hardly tell anything is different than stock

If I’m in low gears or going up an incline then it sounds horrible to me inside the cab

i tried to take a video of the sound but you can’t hear it on my phone. It just sounds like white background noise

Yeah, not everyone will like the same sound. For my wife and kids, they have no issues with the 10"
It's possibly too loud for you then and maybe a larger one will suit your ears.
If anything, call and talk to Keith, he should be able to help you out.

I’m sure it can be fixed
But then I have to ship it there and back which equates to more $$$ being spent
I think I’ll just be Selling it and going back to stock quietness
To be clear,it’s not the tone out of the tailpipe that’s the issue
It’s the reverb noise heard and felt in the cab that is the issue

Pointing up or down doesn't matter. When I ran his dual resonator setup on my TRD exhaust, the driver side pointed down. I used that resonator on the passenger side of my current 8 inch BAM, and it points down too - minimal to no drone.

I think the purpose of pointing up is so condensation doesn't collect.

To the OP - How many miles did you drive with the OEM exhaust?

I didn't do the best job installing my BAMuffler, and installing the resonator made matters worse. Keith mailed one of his blocking plates to me right away, I installed it but I wasn't happy with the sound. I finally crawled under the truck and discovered that none of my connections were tight, so I loosened, aligned and tightened all of the bolts... it sounded right but it droned. I reinstalled the resonator, this cut the drone but not enough. Since I cut 24" off my tail pipe for clearance, Keith sent me a brand new resonator that is 6" longer than standard. I installed the new resonator and all is well. If your tail pipe has not been cut, you probably won't need the longer resonator... I recommend that you inspect your installation, and maybe reset it. And yes the closed end of the resonator should be as high as possible for condensation drainage.

It's just a hum, nothing crazy either. It's just a noise that tells me that I have something different than stock. Also, it's only around the 2000 RPM so unless you speed up real slow or in a gear that's in that area, it hums just for a bit

I think the pre-2014 Tundras had a longer OEM muffler than the 2014+ models so they are very quiet. The 2014+ models have a hint of drone - even with the OEM muffler. But it's not over bearing or annoying. The BAM muffler sound would be a slightly deeper version of the 2014+ OEM (in terms of what you would hear), but since your reference point is a 2007 - you're going from near silence to a bit of drone.

    I get that above 1,600rpm

Anything below and it’s like it drops into a separate deep category

    like it has 2 stages

Ill re check everything again sometime this week and see what Keith has to say

This is a great example of why what someone else tells you makes no difference at all, everyone perceives things differently. My experience with the same system is exactly the opposite, I can hear my radio fine and easily have conversations without the resonator

I tend to agree with this.

I was quite surprised at how much sound I get from my 2020 Crewmax... from both the tailpipe AND the engine compartment.

I like the sound... and wouldnt want it any louder... but would like a better flowing, dual system if possible.

The stock exhaust is pretty dialed in for the 5.7. If you get a larger pipe or duals you will actually lose the back pressure the engine needs, so you will take a hit to your low end torque. Per Keith, the Exhaust Guru. Just something to keep in mind.
