Stuff like this is why I buy new. I know that it's a "waste of money" but I have such sh*t luck buying used. It's worth it for the peace of mind.

Thanks. First thing I check on anything from any Larry H. Miller dealership. They are as crooked as a dog's hind leg.

Yes, I always pull carfax on any vehicle I'm buying. I was very keen on a Corvette awhile back but then pulled the carfax and all sorts of problems and questions came up so I avoided the purchase.

It's certainly worthy of careful inspection, driving, mechanic testing, records, and a heavy negotiating chip. They'd have to knock thousands off the price and it might be a great truck or at least a good farm truck or similar.

So I wouldn't rule it out until seeing the service history from Toyota.

Possible that after the accident the frame was replaced during the LSC. That's how I ended up with a 16 year old truck with a rebuilt title but has a 5 year old frame.

True, and the accident was 16 years ago and during the Toyota replacement settlement. A smart owner might have made hay with that and tried for rust replacement...

We can all agree that Carfax is far from all inclusive, but there is a pretty consistent (for carfax) set of work on the rear end/suspension after the accident. The original owner sold it right after getting a second alignment after less than a hundred miles, and it took them 2 months to put that 100 miles on it. They effed it up, knew it, and got out of it.

The next 2 owners and 60k miles have almost nothing except registrations on it. The last owner had an alignment done, then replaced and balanced tires right before getting out of it. My guess is that he/she got tired of the issues too, and walked away when these measures didn't fix it.

Take all this info with the fact that the dealer is making no mention of the title being branded/salvage and.... if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck. Again, I'm a cynic with terrible luck.

I have no dog in the hunt, but that Carfax tells a different story to my reading.

This truck stayed in the same family for 20 years, bought and serviced at the same auto shop for the first many years even between "ownership transfers," which might or might not be an actual sale or transfer; may be updating registration or address. Then it moved to Arizona for ~3-4 years, which suggests a college kid, then back to the same area of Montana, and then down to Utah where it was ultimately sold/traded.

The service records show a truck that, in spite of an accident, was well maintained and issues addressed in spite of the accident. Some gaps in records though. If I were local I'd take the carfax in and inspect it carefully and haggle the price down.
