I have been doing some half-hearted looking for a new Tundra (nothing real serious) since the pandemic hit. What I found is that there weren't many out there and prices went higher. However, I just saw a friend of mine get a "loaded" new Tundra for a decent price (~$45K) AND he got $24K trade in for a 7 year old Tundra. He ordered it and wait for delivery. I would think I could get similar money (or more?) for my 2017(?). Are people seeing "deals"? Is now a time to be shopping??

You may be able to find deals here and there. The used car market is projected to go bonkers in the near future which is why dealerships are probably willing to buy used cars and cut deals on new models.

No. I don't think so. It may be a good time to sell but most folks only have one vehicle they depend on for getting around. I don't even know if this is true considering prices all around are rising, so selling high now may also mean buying high later.

Edit: In a normal year the end of the year is a great time to buy.

MSRP is probably going to be the best deal right now, many dealers are adding 5-10k to prices, especially for Pros. You should be able to get top dollar for any trade however.

The bottom is going to fall out of this thing if/when rates go up and supply normalizes. A lot of people better have good GAP insurance.

True and I agree but I don't see any of these factors changing in the next year or further out.

Personally if you can get MSRP I would consider that a deal these days. IMHO buying a vehicle now despite the extremely high trade in values is a terrible idea UNLESS you absolutely need one (like coming off a lease/current vehicle is falling apart). Interest rates are going to climb and gas has done nothing but increased over the last year. Inefficient vehicles are going to come down in price whether it’s in 2 months or 2 years. I would wait OP if your asking for advice…

Your comment was two parts. I think the supply chains may normalize sooner but prices won't readjust right away. Used car prices will stay close to new car prices for some time. Auctions were going crazy and car inventory is getting gobbled up in what looks like anticipation for higher future sales volume.

As far as rates I doubt rates will adjusted any time soon but I agree it will be a necessary corrective measure to fix some of the issues we are seeing. With that said I will leave it at that....I smell ozone in the air....

Deals to be had for those willing to sit on the sidelines and wait for this peak insanity to run its course ... markets are distorted and no longer based in reality, but it won't last. History has a funny way of repeating itself, and we've jumped the shark in comparison to 2007/2008 debt-to-GDP, money printing, and bailouts. Should be 'interesting'.

I'm also into Vettes and you should see what dealers are marking up the new C8 Z06 to ... it's sickening. More sickening is hearing stories about people on waiting lists for multiple cars with the intention of 'flipping' them for even more $$$. Greedy futhermuckers ... just because it's legal doesn't make it right. This may be happening with Toyotas to a lesser degree ... guess it kinda depends on what kinds of restrictions the manufacturer puts on dealers.

Definitely deals to be had if you are patient and look around. I just reserved a 2WD Limited Crewmax tonight at MSRP. Combo that with my trade in value at about 2k under what I paid for it 4 years ago. Based on what I put into my SUV over the years besides gas, it puts me at about $75 a month to own my current SUV. Take all of that equity, dump it into a truck with far more features and my out of pocket is going to be less than 10k. If this was a normal market, I would be dishing out closer to 20-25k.

There was an article out in the last few days that say there is probably going to be a waiting list for the new Tundras up to a year and a half in some cases. Going to get a lot stranger out there!!

That’s a bs story based on one salespersons opinion of trd pro wait times at one particular dealer. There’s all ready lots of trucks available unsold. And Toyota’s in full production.

You're telling me the used car market is about to get crazier than it has been for the 18 months? If that's true....:eek2:

^^^^There are two dealers in the Houston area that have not had a 21 or 22 Tundra on their lot for two weeks now. I would like to see lots of trucks for sale but in this area there are simply none around.

If i understood their website properly, a local dealer was selling Tundras at $2k off MSRP. However, I knew that all they had on the lot were 5-6 2WD SR5 TSS models which are horribly overpriced (The TSS package for $4995) to begin with...IMO of course.

Really? I'm waiting on 1 of 2 that were offered at my dealership? The offer was made on Oct 23 and as of yesterday, they have no other trucks allocated by Toyota.

Yes. My local dealer got 4 and one after a month is still not spoken for. When trucks start coming in on a regular basis you won’t have a problem finding a truck. Depending on location of course. My dealer has 5 newer tundras sitting on the lot. Don’t fall for the fear mongering.

My two local dealerships are not charging over MSRP, but have wait lists a mile long (one has over 30 platinums on a waiting list)

I know Peterson Toyota is not charging over Msrp but Edmark Toyota is marking most of their 2021s up $1000. Have bought several from both but Peterson for the win next time. My salesman at Peterson said the longest waiting list is for the TRD PRO. Asked him about the Limited and he said that shouldn't be too hard to get. He also said refundable deposit only if they could not get the truck.

If you can sell your truck privately for top dollar and pick up a new Tundra at MSRP you'll be money ahead.
