I took the badges off my Tundra. The previous owner replaced one with glue. Not double sided tape. Well it took off the clear coat. Not happy. So now I have "Limited" clear missing. Plan on wrapping the truck in two weeks. This would show.
    Any ideas for repair?
Kicking myself for not taking picture.

It's hard to say without a picture but if you are wrapping the truck the wrap shop can fill and sand the area down if needed. Its pretty common for wrap shops to do these types of corrections. One of the forum members runs a wrapping shop, I'll tag him if I can remember the name.

If you intend to repair, what color is your truck? The solid colors are single stage. The metallic colors have clear to my knowledge.

If you are sure you removed the clear coat you'll likely need a repaint of the single panel at a minimum; ideally the panels get blended. You will also have to wait some time for the paint to cure before wrapping; the risk of not waiting is having a repeat of the issue when you remove the wrap again.

If there is some clear coat left you can try the optimum product which name escaped me at the moment. Its hit or miss with this product. If you haven't used it before it will probably still look like crap and will require a correction. Personally I would try this first before repainting but if you are wrapping you can get away with just filling and sanding; properly repair it at a later date when you unwrap the truck.

Optimum Clear Coat Restorer is what you were alluding to. Here's a link to a Rag Company video showing how it is applied:

What does you drive side door panel say for your paint color? Its the row labeled C/TR. What year? Would like to check paint composition.

This is pretty minor for your wrap shop to smooth out. It's not common for paint to lift during a wrap but it does happen, most shops will have to deal with some level of paint prep (chips and other blemishes)

Assuming you are doing the wrap yourself this vid may inspire and inform you on what type of prep you would need to do; sections of interest starts at 5 mins and later at 16 mins:

I would clean up the area to make sure that stuff isn't just glue residue or let your wrap shop do it. If you clean it up yourself, use a rubber wheel and an adhesive remover (make sure it says it is safe on auto paint).

Poking around, if this is for your 2004 Tundra, the C/TR code would be 202 (or U202). These are both single stage paints, meaning no separate clear coat layer or at least there shouldn't be a clear layer. I would be surprised but its a possibility the panel was repaired with a clear coat, especially considering the emblem was re-glued on. If that's the case, repairing it and wrapping it may make it worse than just smoothing it out and wrapping it. Take it to the wrap shop and see what they say before attempting a color matched paint touch up or CCR. It may save you time and money.

Post pictures when you rig is wrapped and Good luck.

    The paint code is 218.
I am going to talk to the wrapper (haha) before messing with it. Its a friend and is doing the wrap for cost.
Sadly it is not glue residue. There is a large difference in thickness. Enough to make me wonder if it has already had a respray in the area. That might be why the clear came off.
I got a couple weeks to work on it. Thanks @Saltyhero13 and @briarpatch for the info.
This seriously is the best forum I have ever been on.
I will post pics of either the repair or the wrap once done.

edit: didn’t see your previous post. Was typing my response as it came up.....

That looks like residual glue from the previous owner bonding the badge to the truck. I would do as previous poster suggested and take off the glue using a rubber wheel and a non abrasive dehesive

Sounds good. 218 is a metallic so it is clear coat damage you have. I wouldn't DIY on your first try, its good you are letting the installer do his thing.

What color wrap are you going with?

The wrap is going to be satin black. Then delete the chrome. Hopefully get a 2019+ pro grille, 3" Icon stage 3 lift, 35" M/T tires, Don't know what rims yet. etc. etc. etc.
