Anybody run a d rated tire in an LT size? I'm looking at the new toyo at3 in 35 12.5 18 and they come in both d and f rated. The d is about 10 lbs lighter with everything thing else the same. My truck doesn't see serious offroad so im considering the d due to both weight and ride comfort. Clearly it will ride better but are there any down sides? Its still a truck tire with good tread depth and full capability.
    Thoughts?

    E is over kill,

C is even higher than the tundras GVWR.

    D will be fine.

Thats what I can see too. 2900lb capacity per tire. I don't think my truck has ever seen a sharp rock off road that would justify the thicker sidewall.
My main thing is I don't want it to feel "squishy".

D is still way heavier duty than what the tundra comes with....F is so ridiculously overkill for any half ton truck this is an easy decision

go for it, Wish my E rated tire were C or D. I think E load is too much for 1/2 ton trucks. E load tires come stock on 2500\3500HD trucks. F would be miserable, maybe like riding around on a wood wagon wheel.

Tire selection (load) is poor for our trucks if you want to install anything larger than the stock sizes. We are pretty much stuck with E load. Ill say it again- please tire manufacturers- Make some C load tires in sizes that work for Tundras!

I run a 295 70 18 toyo at2 E rated tire now. Definitely stiffer than the factory Michelins that came on my pro. Not terrible but I definitely don't want it to be any stiffer.
My truck is 90% street. When its offroad its mainly sand and on road trips we see some snow. No sharp rock offloading for me. I think the D rated version at3 is going to be my next tire. Better ride, lighter for better fuel economy and cheaper

I have the Toyo at3 in 35s in D rating. Not squishy at all. I run them at 38 psi all around. In fact, I went with the toyos specifically because they were D range. I came from a 4Runner with E rated KO2s. It was miserable.

Thank you for the feedback, this is great to hear! Do you have any pictures of your truck? Would love to see how the look? Also any impressions of the tire overall? Thanks

The impressions overall are great!! It does very good in the rain, haven’t had it on snow yet. They do have a minor hum/road noise at around 70 mph. Not bad though.

thank god there's this thread lol. I'm about to pull the trigger on these in D to replace my Cooper St Maxx's that are E. I do a lot of offroading, but I really don't think the extra 2 plys are going to make or break me when going offroad, god forbid I snag a rock.

Agree with everyone else, D rated will be fine.

I run F rated but that's only because Patagonia M/t 35x12.50r18 are only made F rated for some reason. The ride is still comfortable, run them at 32psi and I don't find it miserable or stiff.
