CV Joint or U-Joint?

    I have an '06 Tundra, 6 cyl. and need to know if it has CV or U joint. How can I tell?

    Likely it has a double cardan joint. Basically 2 u-joints put together and sometimes called a CV joint on driveshafts.

    If you think it needs replaced try a heavy truck shop and drop the driveshaft off with them. They'll have the tools necessary to rebuild it without you having to buy an entire new shaft.

    I think 2004-2006 is 4.0L V6. 3.4L ended in 2003? CV joints are out of my league also as I'm one wheel peel.

    I have no clue on the 4.0 Liter engine in general.

    I'm going with @Festerw here.

    Removed lots of rust.
    U joint usually do not need cover boots. CV do.

    Rear drive shaft is all U-joints. Front driveshaft between transfer case and front diff has U-joints. Front half shafts from differential to wheels have CV joints. There's a tiny U-joint on the steering shaft also. Not sure where on the vehicle you're referring to, or which model you have.
