    Not sure at this point.
I have seen quite a few posts on here cutting tail pipes, just right before the last hanger of the exhaust.

Are there any downsides to this as far as performance goes?

Is there a certain angle it should be slanted when cut?

If you want to do this I’d just unbolt the coupling right after the muffler and see how you like it.
As far as performance I don’t think there is anything significant from exhaust just sound upgrade.

I’m not sure if there’s a drop in performance but I had to chop mine from because my leafs would hit them. I eye balled the cut and just made sure it’s not going to melt my brake lines or anything.

Can you post pics? It is one of the few things I really dislike about the looks of the tundra. Looks like the designers just forgot they needed an exhaust tip and slapped it on the rear end.

Any fumes sneaking into the cab while in traffic?

I took off the entire tailpipe right at muffler. I couldn't stand the factory look either. I've had it like this for about 5k miles and haven't noticed any fumes while idling I traffic. You can kinda see in this picture

    Hello,

I would call Keith Carty of Dirty Deeds Industries and pick his brain. No one knows Tundra's like Keith does!!! He is out of the office most days, but is always available via phone. You can call or text him anytime at 760-877-4234. He does take many calls and texts a day, but is very good at getting back to everyone.

    Thanks, Shawna, DDI

A tailpipe that extends over the axle is superior to dumping in front of the axle. I cut mine at an angle right after the last hanger. This cut removed 24" of tailpipe... I had to do this because I relocated my leaf packs under the axle.
You may lose a little low end torque, but probably not enough to worry about.

How is dumping over the axle superior? Just curious because I have done both on my trucks for the past 25 years and never noticed a difference. Maybe a slight change in drone but nothing noteworthy. But I also like my exhaust loud. LOL. Can't wait to get my long tubes and custom exhaust built!

Heat blasting the axle & break lines, and exhaust fumes under the cab are a concern. I drove my truck for over a year with a turned down dump in front of the axle, I didn't experience problems but having a tailpipe that extends over axle is better for me. The longer tailpipe also enabled me to add a drone killing resonator.IMG_7252.jpg IMG_7656.jpg

I've never had an issue with heat blasting the axle, brake lines or fumes. I've check the axle temps after driving and never seen a measurable difference. I actually worry more about dumping over the axle and the tail pipe being so close to my 35" spare. Well I guess different stroke for different folks.
