I have a Alpine Type R 10" sub that I love and have had for about 10 years. I am determined to get in my DC. I am thinking about building a custom sealed enclosure for it that fits behind the center console, about as wide as the console, that extends below the seat to get the .65 cubic feet of volume that Alpine recommends. So, does anyone have opinions on a side, down, forward direction for the sub? I think side firing is going to be the easiest to accommodate this big sub. Does shape of the box have an effect on sound? Has anyone attempted this?

Next, I've even thought about building it into the center console itself, by pointing it out he back. This is risky due to the possibility of a screw up.... Has anyone tried this???

I looked at that and done a bit of research. I like it the option and am keeping that as a fall back. Don't really want shallow subs but will go there if all else fails. Best 10" shallow sub is????????

It's too small. LOL. The mounting depth won't work. Big Sub. This is going to be a crazy looking box . Will definitely keep this post going with my progress. I see template after template coming.

Got a basic design. Going to mock up and take careful notes, template and pictures next weekend. Maybe I can produce for others. This is a tight fit, I can tell you that. Down fires...

I have 2 of the Alpine Type R 10's.. I went ahead and grabbed some shallow 8's for my build. No way would the 10's fit. Good luck.

Placing between the console and rear seat. Will only fit a single. Damn, it's a tight fit though

Thought about mounting in/integrating it into the console.... Might revisit that idea too because it's so large. Cutting it it's a scary idea though

Down fires.... Only way the sub fits. You can go higher, but lose rear cup holders. Volume estimated at .7 cu ft

Specs range from .5-.8 cu ft. Ideal is .65 cu ft. I'm estimating about.63

If anyone is interested, let me know. I have templates to duplicate. The only variable is the piece that extends under the seat. It can be adjusted depending on the specs of the sub you'd want to use
