Last week I overheard someone on their cell phone talking to PayPal about multiple fraudulent charges on their account. Sounds like their system isn't as secure as it should be.

That sucks, man. I have mostly switched to prepaid or "Burner" credit cards from WalMart. For years I had several, long term credit cards in my personal name and luckily never had much of an issue. But in todays world of those interwebs scammers, I have taken a different approach that all you fellow Jap machine lovin' folk might do well to heed. So here is my MO (modus operandi) for all you non military stiffs....Every few months I just buy a new credit card at Wally, no credit check, not associated in any way to my SS number, anonymous and if one gets hacked or jacked there is very little damage they can do to my personal credit score. I also have a separate "burner" prepaid credit card for online purchases. This has worked well for me, YMMV your mileage may vary.....

Same here. I like the way Amazon prepaid cards work. If you ask for $100 amazon card, thats what you get. No taxes or extra cost. Just your card and $100 for $100.

The tax is applied based on the state the seller has their business register in or something.... Basically I don't remember the last amazon purchase i made that added the tax during the final check out part of the purchase.

Thanks for the sentiment and suggestions folks.

The recently hacked Visa card was with Chase and my First bank debit card (Visa) got hacked too. In both instances, Chase and First Bank shut em down and did not make me pay for the charges. Chase notified me yesterday to tell me a purchase was made on my card through my Paypal acct. I get warned on anything over $200

Koskowski called me this morning, they ordered 4 manual locking hubs for a Ford pickup :)

He is the owner of a salvage yard in NY, he gets burned about once a week and is now calling all customers to confirm purchase before sending the item. He told me someone created a fake ebay acct with my card info and used my real address and phone number but slightly different email. I called Ebay and they confirmed this. Koskowski pulled my cell number from the ebay contact info. Imagine having to confirm every purchase in order to run your biz?? he also said Ebay told him he still has to ship the items despite confirming this was fraudulent purchase WTF? He won't ship them.

I suspect this was a test run and if I did not catch it, I bet more items would have been purchased by this POS thief

I don't have and have never had an Ebay acct, I called Ebay and what is weird is the person sent me a confirmation email while I was on the phone with her and I was supposed to confirm receipt. It never came so i asked her what address she used and she told me and when she realized it was the fake address she got nervous and told me my info was hacked and the acct was fake and then tried to hang up on me??

I sent an email to the address she gave me and loaded it with all sorts of nice comments, it came back undeliverable, coward!

I hate thieves like that. Why can't they just get a regular job like me?
I have been hacked several times before. Now my bank account is set up to all transactions, even if it is for $1.00, I get an e-mail to my phone immediately. A pain to deal with all the e-mails, but I actually don't use my card that much, so it is worth it to keep an eye on things.

Did the thieves user your address as the shipping address too?
Cause if they did.... Or an address that is local to you? Im just saying Mr koskowski might as well ship it and send you the tracking info to.

Thats sucks still. For you and Mr K.
    Its cool he called you.

    edit:
reread the last paragraph again.. that sucks.

Interesting, my credit card was also compromised after fueling up at pilot, twice now. It’s also happened to a couple other people I know that fuel up at the same station.

I always give a firm pull on the credit card reader on the pump before I stick my card in. Most skimmers will come off pretty easily. It's a good habit to get into. Haven't found one yet, and haven't been hacked yet.

Yes, the shipping address and billing were the same. They used all of my real info except the email address, it would have been shipped to my house which is in the mtns and not readily accessible which makes me wonder about the purpose of this theft attempt?

Pretty sure they are hoping the package is delivered while you are at work. They just wait somewhere they can see the delivery get dropped off and then go and snatch it up.

That is disconcerting since this probably means it is a local person who is attempting this?? I should have the seller send the item and stake it out and have some fun.....:duel:
