I have a 2016 Tundra DC with a TRD Pro suspension installed and at about 13,000 miles I noticed there is a low speed creaking coming from the front end when there is a little movement and when turning. I talked to my buddy who has a 2016 TRD Pro Crewcab with 23,000 miles and he said his started doing the same thing with less than 20,000 miles on it. He told the techs to hit the grease fittings when he took it in for it's 20,000 mile service and he said it's still doing it. Anyone else have this issue?

I have stock TRD suspension and I get a creak upfront. Typically on slow moving off camber movements. A.k.a. backing out of my driveway. I've been told it may be my skid plate. I can't get it to squeak sitting still. I've pushed down on the front of the truck getting it to bounce a bit and it won't do it. I think mine is more along the lines of frame flex rubbing something minor.

Yeah, I didn't think of that. I do have the TRD Pro Skid Plate installed...It's weird because it just started doing it a recently. I installed the skid plate on my truck when it had about 1,000 miles on it. How do I fix it?

I only have the stock tin can of a skid plate. But it does make contact with quite a few things when you bolt it up. I was thinking of putting a little bit of rubber on the contact points or some type of thick rubber tape.
I would pull my plate and check for any rub areas. Also to pinpoint it, drive your truck without the skid plate on and see if it goes away.

OK I dove deeper into looking for my creaky front end. Mine is definitely coming from the passenger side front spring. You could even feel it when you put your hand on the spring as I would lift the truck a little bit with my shoulder in the fender well. I sprayed some lube on it just for shits and giggles and it made no difference. It's not a squeak but it creak. I guess I'll have to take it in and see what they say. Since it is under warranty. Not looking forward to that though.

Possible bushing? The polyurethane ones tend to squeak like a...like a...well, like something that squeaks a lot.

Get a GoPro and connect it to wheel well area. That may help determine where it's coming from and why/when.

The noise went away by the next morning. The lube must have penetrated. It's slowly coming back though.

    Follow up on this...

I loosened the TRD Pro Skid Plate and put some vinyl I had laying around the shop in between the skid plate and frame. The sound immediately went away. My buddy, who has a TRD Pro, used gorilla tape and his squeak went away. Seems like it is a skid plate issue.

I have some Dynamat lying around here somewhere I think I'm going to try that on the contact points. Next time I change the oil.

any updates on a front end creak under slow acceleration from a dead stop. I found the fenders where they meet the a pillar make the rubbing noise. must be bad spot welds or bends. I wonder if Toyota knows

I added a combination of nylon and rubber washers to my RCI skidplate, and all creaking/popping noises are gone! I'm back in love with my truck.

i didnt take pics. i used 1-1/8x25/64x1/8 nylon washers (Ace hardware part #59564-R) everywhere, except for the back two bolts on the rear plate. on those two, I used 3/8 I.D. 2-1/4 O.D. large rubber washers (ace hardware part #4326-A).

UPDATE: It worked! I printed out the Tech Tip pdf and gave to my dealership. I did this because a month ago they told me the noise I heard was an aftermarket horn banging on the frame (it wasn't). They reinstalled the skid plate with new hardware, in the order on the sheet, each set with a specific torque... and it fixed the problem! I'm really relieved, I was gonna go back to a Tacoma if they didn't fix it. Had the TRD PRO since August and this noise took away all the joy.

Does the noise sound like the scene from jaws where they’re all in the bottom of the ship getting drunk and the boats got that creaking noise to it? That’s what mine sounds like.
“OHHHHHH SHOW ME THE WAY TO GO HOME (BOM BOM BOM ) IM TIRED AND I WANNA GO TO BED. HAD A FEW DRINKS ABOUT AN HOUR AGO AND IT WENT RIGHT TO MY HEAD!”

can I upload video from my iPhone?
    Shit, sure can’t.

Sounds like an upstairs neighbor is getting out of his bed, but his mattress and box spring are from 1935 and he’s 700 pounds?

My noises started today, been about 20K mi., I recalled a few threads about this problem.
In what order are the bolts supposed to be tq’d? A to E?

Just returned from dealer after bitching about the same creaking and they stated that the previous nimrod that changed the oil on my truck stripped the bolts that hold the skid plate. Oh and they also stripped the oil change access panel bolts. FML

So funny you say this- i went in for 5k service (might as well while it’s in warranty) I mentioned to them that the skid plate bolts needed to be loosened and torqued per spec to eliminate the creaking noise. They bring it back out, say it’s complete. Bout a mile down the road i hear its still creaking. Figured to hell with taking it back and crawled under myself to check it out. Oil access allens are all stripped, along with frame bolt location just keep spinning when trying to torque. In the same boat as you. Ordered all new skid plate hardware oem which I see comes with a box spacer that my does not have installed. The bolts at the rear are bolted thru frame with nuts sitting on top of frame rails- so those should be easy to put an open end wrench on and torque. Will be planning on tapping the frame threads and hope all goes well. Fingers crossed.

Just another reason I hate anyone under my vehicles- so hard to find someone that truly cares and does a good job.
Just the simple 5k service intervals till warranty is up, other than that it’ll just be me.
