As what relates to the Tundra; What I got from this video is if you can t miss it steer into it. Although it wouldn t help when it comes time to file an insurance claim:facepalm:

My takeaway would be don't run into a solid reinforced wall. Fortunately, no too many of those jump out at me on the highway.

Apparently that one test didn t do well. The front and side tests were better.

I mean...how many people are running off-set into a stationary wall? I won't lie and say that didn't concern me...but of all the things that literally anyone I know has ever run into, an off-set stationary wall wasn't one of them.

I never saw this kind of test before, but with that kind of crash I think the seat belts would be the drivers downfall.

In one of the "hood" cams you can see another tundra in the background on a shipping container?

Maybe these clips are individual tests, and not clips of the same test.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
This is why I always ran the heavy duty ranchhand bumper.

That solid reinforced wall simulates a moving vehicle coming from the opposite direction. It's an offset head on Collison. Which are quite common on roads without positive medians.

Curious how much aftermarket bumpers and sliders make a difference in these tests? I know they weren't designed for crashes.. but still... most are "tougher" than stock.... especially the sliders on side impacts

Being "tough" is a bad thing in a crash; it's the crumple zones that save you from serious injury, not your vehicle retaining its shape.

I'm clear on this... but you don't want it so weak that the cab looks like an accordian.... if so then crash cages would "give" as well.....I understand the basics on both.

I agree for the most part, but I would want it to hold it s shape in a drivers side test/crash. Especially if seat belt was buckled.

Your missing the point, regardless of whether the object is stationary or not, is irrelevant. It is the damage as a result there of.

That spare tire was ready to go!

I wonder if clips like these are why they started looking at the spare tire hoists which were recalled if memory serves.

The small overlap test is brutal to a car/truck.. my 06 corolla met it’s end when my father tried to avoid a car that turned into (stalled like 3mph come to find out) him at 70mph. The small overlap hits the one part of a car that is basically not supported by anything till the a pillar.
Completely missed the unibodys “frame rail” which is what’s suppose to crumple and kill the impact energy... this wreak fucked my pops up good

This is a new test that the IIHS just came up with a couple years ago so it's not that surprising that the Tundra doesn't do well on it. If you really want to be disappointed, look up the results on that test for the 2019 Sierra/Silverado, which were fully redesigned after that standard came out and still did poorly in the test.

Eh. I don’t let the tests worry me. If it’s my time, it’s my time regardless of the “safety” of the vehicle.

Plus all my stuffs old. The corolla is the newest thing I own! The replacement for that one was an 09... so still well before the small overlap test

It's the test most vehicles do poorly on, yet it's the most relevant. At least to me. The number of 2 lane, narrow, winding mountain roads in western Canada lead to an insanely high rate of front end overlap collisions at highway speeds. It's super common for someone to drift over the center line on a corner and BANG! That's all she wrote. Hwy 40 in Alberta, the Fraser Canyon in BC and Hwy 97 between Dawson Creek and Ft. St John are notorious. So is Hwy 63?, the one from Fort Mac to Edmonton. All have terrible rates of accidents, most of them head on overlaps.
