this in combo with banning new gas stations is how Ca plans on having us give up our ICE trucks and move to all electric by 2035. I know most on this forum dont wrench on their junk, but its a great hobby that keeps lots of young guys out of trouble.

“The new law also limits the use of many specialized tools for some reason too. The thing is many of these "specialized" tools are in fact common sights in garages. Restricted tools include air compressors, impact wrenches, and even tools as simple as torque wrenches. The law further defines these items as “tools not normally found in a residence.”

“In summation, this law keeps car enthusiasts from completing more complex repairs which are outlined as jobs that would leave the vehicle inoperable for more than 24 hours. However more simple tasks like oil changes, tune-ups, tire changes, and brake changes, are allowed.”

From the county’s code enforcement site.

    https://code-enforcement.saccounty.net/Programs/Pages/AutoRepair.aspx

It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in, or permit others to engage in, minor vehicle repair or maintenance under any of the following circumstances:

    • Using tools not normally found in a residence;
    • Conducted on vehicles registered to persons not currently residing on the lot or parcel; and,
    • Conducted outside a fully enclosed garage or accessory structure and resulting in the vehicle being inoperable for a period in excess of 24 hours. (See Section 3.2.5, Table 3.2 (I) of the Zoning Code)

This reads like some rich lawmaker got mad at his neighbor running an air compressor. California is out of control, there is literally no limit to the laws that get passed

Yep, pretty soon they will outlaw farting outdoors due to the release of methane. I see more Californians moving to Tx

Thats one out of 3. Still have to have a building to do the work in, and cant use tools not found in a normal residence. Do you think these peoplewho write thses laws own torque wrenches? Tire plug kits? Buffing polisher? Welder? They are who decide what tools a normal house should have.

even something as simple as trying to remove the haze from plastic headlights could put you in violation.

Half of the time I’m hanging out with my friends, we’re working on something together at one or the other’s houses.

I just fixed my clothes dryer last night. New heater assembly and thermistor. Wife was kinda mad because she wanted a new dryer. Haha.

This law is stupid. People are stupid. My tools and I are staying in Tennessee.

Could be worse. According to one guy I talked to, in Germany the TUV won't let you modify your suspension (e.g. lift or lower your vehicle) and if you do something like replace your tires, you have to get your vehicle reinspected.

These ordinances aren’t that uncommon, most places don’t have the resources to enforce them or just don’t care.

Which is why I live where I cannot see or hear my neighbors. I don’t want to see your shit and I don’t want you seeing my shit.

A couple years ago there was a plan to redesign the MacArthur Maze in the bay that got halted quick because those same lawmakers didn’t want to get stuck in additional traffic. That Maze is the most retarded freeway design I’ve ever seen. Literally is like 6 lanes merging into 1.

What? Hell I have air tools and a compressor at my residence. That sounds very retarded.

Tools "not normally found in a residence" - HA! That definition changes depending on where you live. I live in a neighborhood where several engineers live, as well as others who are well-equipped. Shoot, I'd say >50% of the residences in Baldwin County have air compressors and torque wrenches!

As a person who remembers how it used to be, I find it very disturbing that shit is going south like it is. A complacent, "nothing surprising me anymore", sounds like a pass, and seems insufficiant considering we are supposed to be living in a free society.

I agree it's disturbing. The people in these cities/states obviously want this stuff, though, because they keep electing people that shove this stuff out there. Not sure what to do other than vote, but with the indoctrination going on in public schools and the universities I don't see things going the other direction, unfortunately.

We're simply discussing a law that happens to impact folks with Tundras in the Sacramento area. Nothing to worry about
