Been smelling steaming coolant last couple days, no overheating yet but truck felt sluggish today same came home and opened hood to this. I took cap off.

Replace with new Denso Radiator ($149) if its more than 5 years old. Use a new Denso Cap ($14). Those should be replaced every 4-5 years, as well.

Would a failed cap cause loss of power to engine. Almost feel like a transmission going bad? Picking up new cap tomorrow.

A hot heat soaked engine will lose some power. When was your last radiator and coolant change?

Problem is, both times i felt a loss of power came when engine was not hot, when I had just started driving it. I've had the truck a about two years and haven't had a radiator flush. I just smelled burnt coolant for a day or two before checking and seeing the cap. Turns out you can't check transmission fluid level or add it on 2006 v8.

Sometimes the obvious part failure is a downstream symptom of the real problem. I would definitely check the cooling system and engine compartment out. Look for other clues for potential failure points. Something else may have caused the condition that made that cap fail.

I'm leaning towards the transmission fluid being low and/or old, and the transmission overheating. Sucks that they made this design so you have to go to dealer or shop to get it done.

There are some threads on here about checking, draining and refilling the sealed transmissions.

Yep, already looked through them and got under truck. Getting to the fill plug is not easy; haven't even found it yet. Still, that's an option.

It's really not bad, the fill plug is up on the side of the transmission. @Hooptytrix posted this

This video different from another one i watched. It does look much easier to get to. I just took it to shop up the street to find out what the heck is going on.

I had a similar issue, mine was sluggish and engine bay felt hotter than normal but it wasn’t overheating. Replaced radiator cap with OEM Toyota cap and fixed my issue. When an engine is running hotter than normal it will lose power, cooler engine = run more efficiently.

Earlier I mentioned engine was cold when I noticed issues while driving.

I am aware of what you said.. I said I had a similar issue and replacing the radiator cap did it for me. Let us know what fixes it for you.

That sucks. Seems like a common problem with these later gens. Was the Rad Cap Overflow related to the SAIP?

seems this system is critical to the cold start of vehicle.

Update. So talked to mechanic for a minute. He told me coolant totally unrelated to manifold issue. The overheating mentioned in video is just a switch.
They were able to reset computer so truck is running fine for now but that (pump) will have to be fixed sooner or later at $600 just for part...their quote.
Got a new radiator cap as well. Glad I couldn't find the transmission fill plug:).

Yeah check out these “bad boys” (haha for some reason I’ve heard that phrase used like 4 times this week by different people; not actually regarding anything that “bad”)

Anyone know where I can actually buy the oem part or close to it at a good price? Air induction pump? I know about the bypass kit but is that the best route. Is the oem system likely to fail again and again?

Seems that that off market substitutes more likely or just as likely to fail. I was able to buy one new (oem) for 1/3 the dealer price. Next move, install.
