I have a '17 4.6 SR5 4x4 w/ a 4" fabtech lift w/ 35"s. I was told that I could do damage to my trans because my computer thinks I'm running a stock tire size instead of the taller ones and the shift points would be different. Is this true and if so what would be a good programmer to use without breaking the bank? Thanks

I'm interested in hearing the responses to this. As crazy as the notion sounds (to me) I've heard this too.

You won’t hurt squat. You can change the tire size in the computer and it’ll scale a few things that are based off of output shaft rpm but it’s not a drastic change. Certainly not worth the money to only change that aspect.

Do you reprogram the computer every time you hook on a trailer of several thousand pounds?

No, the only thing you will damage is your MPG. The taller/bigger tires add weight and increase rotational inertia. The added weight does make the drivetrain work harder.

The speed sensors in the transmission monitor main shaft rotation speed to shift. They will still do there job.

Depending on truck and tire size, adding bigger tires is Almost equivalent to towing around a small trailer 24/7.

You can adjust shift points to help the truck out a little bit but not doing that will not cause any severe damage. If you want to do this seems HP Tuners is the way to go.

VFTuner and their tundra tune pack have premade options for 35's 37's 4.88 5.29 and stock gears in every combo. I like it so far.
