Color Matched, doesn't match.

Ordered some MGM door handles from Cool Springs and installed them over the weekend on my 2019 Limited DC (easy change out if you're considering). I need to get a car wash, but the shade appears to be a tad off, the handles appear darker than the rest of the truck.. Any one else see this with color matched parts? I don't notice the difference on the Mirror caps, but the handles, yes..

    Alot of them
2 things will affect it. There are variances in the color code. For example, Barcelona Red on my 13, has 12 or so color variances 9shades) for the 3R3 paint code. Second, paint will look different on the plastic handles versus how it looks on a metal surface. Stop my your local body shop and see if they have the variance chart where you can look at it.

They are a tad off. I noticed it on the super white handles and caps. It’s only something I would notice. My wife thinks I’m crazy sometimes.

Paint batches can be slightly different - there are variances and lots of variables affecting the color. One of the biggest is paint on plastic vs. metal. For some reason it is always different. Look at most newer cars with the plastic bumpers - the bumpers are always a tad off from the body color. On my wife's car a few years ago we bought it brand new and I wanted to return it; thinking it was in an accident prior to delivery at the dealer. Then I looked at all the cars on the lot and they are all the same.
The handles might be the same situation. Metallic colors might be even more so since the metallic flakes are not always oriented in the same direction, depending on how it was sprayed. That creates a difference in reflection also.

Girlfriend says I'm crazy, but I do see a difference.. Need to get the panther all cleaned up and take another look in the sun.

This is the exact reason I’ve been so hesitant on pulling the trigger spending over 1k for a Pro grille with matching surrounds. I don’t hate my chrome enough to worry about it anymore.

There will always be a bit of a difference when painting different materials, but a nice thing about cement is that there is only one color code. With no variants, you are much more likely to have a good result.

How did you find out cement only had one variant? My color is Cavalry and is kind of the same tone as cement. Wonder how many Cavalry has....

I just had my lower grille at the body shop for paint. The estimator looked it up and told me when I asked about how well I should expect it to match.

With a fresh wash, it looks better to me now. Still a hair off, but might be one of those things only I will notice.. file-5.jpg

That's good news since I am picking up a crewmax in Cement next week and getting rid of all the chrome is top priority.

Nobody will notice it. I am the same way; sometimes I worry about things like that and everyone else that I point it out to look at me with a big frown because they don't see it, or if they see it after I point it out they still don't think it is a big deal.

No separate paint jobs will ever be exactly the same just very close..its one of those things that only the owner will notice the difference lol

Something that has always driven me nuts, but cant really do anything about it. My trucks bumpers (factory), TRD pro grill, mirror caps, handles and aftermarket fender flares are all slightly a different shade.... but I am the only person who has noticed it.

All chrome gone, pro grill, KC ditch light and bluetooth wireless controller.
The cement parts from Toyota for my 18 that are for earlier year Pros is slightly darker. No one has said anything but it reaches out and screams at me when I look at it.

And this folks is the reason I dont color match. You go out of the way and incur the expense only to in the end not be happy about it. Asides as I stated in another thread, at 68 I am old school and i happen to like some chrome on my ride.

I had no choice with fender flares. My paint guy asked for the VIN the match it as close as possible. It's less noticeable than the difference between my factory grille surround and hood.

Back when I used to work in BMW parts, I had a M Tech bumper cover painted for my 3 Series. No BMW parts came pre-painted. The body shop we used explained to me that there were 11 different color variations for BMW Alpine 300. He requested I take my fuel door off and send it to them to scan and match. When I got my new bumper cover back it was on the money. True plastic and metal are hard to color match but if it’s a good body shop and they know what they’re doing, it can be done.
