I have this clicking sound on the drivers side A pillar that’s driving me crazy. Seems to be temperature related. It’s worse now that the weather is colder and disappears when outside temp is above 70. I have taken the side grab handle and molding off and place some foam rubber behind all the wires , clips and airbag with no improvement. Wondering if it could be the glass windshield causing the clicking noise.Any suggestions?

When does the clicking occur? More details will help

So I just tried the foam around the white clip. No change. I still get the clicking. It almost sounds like it's coming from under the speaker near the windshield. Unless someone else finds something here, I'll be having my dealership look into it when I get my first service. That won't be for awhile yet though.

I only hear the clicking while on a bumpy road. It happens with and without the stereo on.

Look at where your headliner contacts the windshield on that side.

Ive narrowed mine down to that. My headliner has about a 1/4” gap between it and the windshield on drivers side, but it contacts it on the passenger and that’s the source of my “click”

    drives me nuts too.

Have you tried anything to mitigate it? Maybe some foam strip up there would help.

Other* than having my wife hold it while we drive, no. But that’s my plan is to shove something in there.

    That’s just how to own a $60k truck I guess…

It's annoying as hell. I just did a quick test drive and the headliner isnt where the click is in my truck. :(

Tomorrow I will try to remove the front drivers side speaker in an attempt to find the source of this clicking noise

I removed the drivers side front speaker but haven’t been able to find the clicking sound when going over bumps. I have removed the A pillar molding as well as the tweeter but have not been able to localize the pro goof the clicking

Thanks for having a look. I'll keep digging but if no solution comes up I'll take it the dealer on my next days off.

Yep, I got some improvement but it is still there. I do think it’s temp related and in the headliner under the visor. The window ricocheting the sound is playing with my mind.

@Lou1947 did the port or dealer install a dash cam?

No dash cam on mine. I have HUD but I removed the cover shield over the HUD and no clicking from there. It seems to be coming over side A pillar near the windshield

Are you able to mitigate the sound at all by pressing up on the headliner as @samwell885 was able to? Doing so doesn't work for me, which is why I think it's lower down in the a-pillar or behind the dash somewhere.

Now that I'm actively trying to track this down, I remember did also have this noise when the temperatures were in the 50's here so it's not only occuring in freezing temperatures for me. When I first noticed it I thought it was something to do with my phone connection so I didn't think about it then.

No, however I drove in a vacant parking lot while holding my ear to corner of the open sunroof and could better hear the sound. I’ll try that again since it came back.

Any luck? I took it to 2 diff dealerships and they told me “didn’t hear it” which is insane because I get about a dozen clicks every .5 miles. Worse with colder temps here in CO. I also don’t want a 7k mile truck to be ripped apart tryin to find the issue, but this is driving me insane

I live in Illinois and my clicking sound is definitely worse with the colder it gets. My gut feeling that it has to do with contraction of the metals with low temps. I have removed the A pillar interior panel and the clicking noise seems to be coming from behind the side airbag and sunroof drain tube.

So annoying haha. I honestly think that the “fix” for mine will to never buy an expensive vehicle again. I’ve always had base model Tacomas and if anything like this came up I’d just shrug it off and not care. I think for the price of this Tundra, I expected perfection…I just don’t believe that is something that any manufacturer can deliver with the quality of materials these days and lack of craftsmanship. I’m certain there are people on Lamborghini forums with a weird sound or click too.

Good luck in your search for a quiet cabin, because I’m giving up on mine. Haha!

Very true. I moved from a ‘17 Tacoma TRD OR that I really treated like a work truck with longevity in mind. Now, $75,000+ has changed my tune.

Red headed persistence and relentless curiosity has gotten me through most things. Not giving up yet! :pccoffee:

I hope to find my source too. I was just being negative. Persevere my friend!

    ‘17 SR5 for me too
    ‘10 SR Tacoma before that

Still searching for the clicking noise. Today I removed the dash side panel side panel , the side vent and the soft vinyl trim below the side vent. I was able to get my hand behind the dash but couldn’t replicate the clicking noise. I wonder if it could be coming from the glass windshield. I am at the point of taking my truck to a glass windshield installer and have them remove and reinstall the windshield. My only concern is that they may break the glass or that I may have some leaks after the reinstall.

I'm off work this week, so I'm going to try to tinker with it a little bit. I'm thinking of popping the hood and backtracking any cables and wires to see if potentially one of them is loose.

Anyone figure this out yet?? I notice that when I park in my heated garage an then drive into the cold air (-10Celcius) it takes a few miles before its starts. If I park outside in the cold its starts immediately upon driving, so I think its definitely temperature dependent. It's coming from my A-Pillar or in the area above the driver side visor. I'm trying find a day when I can get it into the dealer for a day, but I have not time.

I wasnt able to find anything going through the fire wall that would cause the noise. I'm convinced its in the A pillar or under the dash near the windshield. It couls be the windshield itself but I'm not certain.

After a few days of tearing apart various parts of the truck, I finally found the source of my truck's clicking sound. I had to pull down the headliner to see it, but there are two metal hooks that have clips (one on driver's side and one on passenger's side) that looks like part of the attachment of the windshield to the truck. Well, on the passenger's side, there is either foam or padding of some kind between the windshield and this metal piece. On the driver's side, there appears to be nothing between the two. I'm wondering if when it got colder, the foam or whatever hardened and slipped out from between the metal and the windshield. Pushing on that specific part of the windshield while I was driving got rid of the clicking sound completely. Someone earlier posted a link (thank you!) to another thread and it definitely led me to the solution for my truck.

    Glad you found a solution!

Was your clicking clearly on the passenger side or was it audible on the driver's side?

When pushing on my windshield while driving, at least on the driver's side, I can't make the noise stop at all. I'll have to have The Woman push on it on her side next time we go for a drive
