When I plug in a trailer to my 2017 Tundra, I get a clicking noise coming from the IBC. It is about the cadence of hazard lights. It only does it when the truck is turned off. Once I insert the key and turn it to the "ON" position, it stops. It does not do it with the truck running. The IBC appears to work as it should when I use it to tow. Any ideas on how to fix this? I saw a similar thread but there were no responses.

Noted this post and wanted to report that I have the exact symptoms in my 2016 with tow package. Did not note until our last trip towing trailer. Wonder where I should start to investigate

The clicking is the brake controller testing for a brake magnet load on the circuit. If it senses the brake magnets it knows a trailer is connected and there are brakes it can activate. The noise is the magnets in the assemblies momentarily touching the drum of the hub as they activate slightly.

No idea why it would make any noise with truck off vs on/running.

Thanks and interesting. Clearly not there when truck is running. I need to see if there is a noise at the brake drums on trailer. The rhythmic ticking is coming from under the steering column near the controller as best I can tell. The controller seems to operate the same otherwise.

Sounds like a short somewhere in the trailer brake harness.

Did you ever find the fix or problem that was causing this? My 2017 Toyota just started doing this also. Exactly the same, plug the trailer in, clicking noise at brake controller box in the truck, turn on the truck, goes away and trailer brakes function correctly.

    Thanks
    Russ
