This might be a stupid question. But I just got this Tundra and it has this clear adhesive on a few spots. I’ve seen some pictures with it still on. What is it and does it serve a purpose? Paint chip protection, should be on door sills, lower portion of door, and maybe even hood. They put it in places to help protect paint from rocks, scrapes and door dings.

The door cups are protected so yours or her finger nails don't scratch the paint. Door sides so you get no chips when opening. Lower body to prevent road debris/rock chips.

I would. You can always heat it up and remove/replace the old.

I agree to keep it. What looks worse to you, fingernail scratches and chips in the paint or some clear plastic with a little dirt buildup on the edges? I say leave it until you hate it LOL

Keep it. Film protection. It cost a lot to have ziebart or someone put it on.

It was included in the $599 Dealer-Installed Options on my 2019, along with Tint, pinstriping and Nitrogen (BS IMHO), and was indicated as "3M Door Cups" and "3M Door Edge". Only issue with a white truck is that it tends to yellow with age/ exposure.

Why I asked him about the hood and bulge. Mine came with tint, clear film protection, fabric treatment, etc, as dealer add-ons also, but I told them I wasn't paying for it...they added it without my permission. Thank heaven they didn't put freakin' pin striping on mine, or it might have been a deal-breaker. I'd have been out there scratchin' at that faux pin-striping before I drove it off the lot. :D

To the OP, it's intended as permanent protection, not installed as shipping protection
