Planning to start the Chrome delete on my 2020 1794.
Wondering if anyone else has done this and what you would recommend?
1- planning on getting the grille that says TOYOTA but sparks doesn’t offer it for 2020
2- bumper caps wrapped or plastidip?

    Congrats! Post a Before Picture

I’m just starting my Chrome Delete modifications.

Just purchased the OE Mirror Covers from the dealership ($40 ea)

Also the Old Style Pro Grille for the Color Matched Surround, plan on keeping my stock grille insert and swapping them out. I’ll probably darken the satin chrome bars going across the grille (Limited Edition) before I reinstall.

Most likely I’ll also dip the front bumper caps with the same dark gray dip while the grille is out. Also thinking of doing part of the black plastic front fascia between the caps in the dark gray and then using aa clear coat satin over the dip just to really harden up the dip since it’s in the front of the truck and low to the ground. I’m sure plenty of debris will splatter against it and with the clear coat it should make it easier to clean.

While doing all those items with the dip I’ll try to do the door handles (driver & pass) and from inside the ugly chrome cup holder, shift trim and shift gate.

All I need is a few days without the dang Rain. All day today and until tomorrow afternoon says the weather channel.

Looking forward to what/how you go about your chrome delete project!

    Good look’n truck!

Price the wrap because from the dealership you can order the old style pro grille to use the surround. Unlike the Tacoma’s where you can order just the surround or grille insert for some reason the Tundras the 2 only come as one piece.

Price for the old color matched grille is around $240 here plus tax so not sure how much the wrap costs.

If going Black then I would just Plasti-Dip the surround and hood bulge. Probably one or one and a half cans so definitely a low cost option.

Talk to your dealership Parts Manager and ask if they will price match. 3 area dealerships near me all will price match the lowest price I can find. Which 99% of the time is Parts Toyota Boch South.

I’ll be looking for your updates!

I did a chrome delete on my ‘18 TRD OR this past spring. CarID steel rear bumper ends, OEM plastic front bumper ends (havent had any issues with the plastic vs steel), 15-17 PRO grill & surround with hood bulge from Sparks. Didnt opt for the one for my year because I was planning on keeping my stock grill and sensor and didnt feel like spending almost double. The 18+ Pro grill should fit your 2020 but dont quote me on that. If you call Sparks and ask they can direct you to the proper one.
Had the bumper ends painted at a local collision center for $100 a corner and sold off the Pro grill and chrome bumper ends to recoup some cash. I reinstalled my stock 18 grill with sensor.
Im personally not into covering stuff up and it wasnt that complicated of a swap.

^this…it’s not too costly and will turn out looking factory. Especially the mirror caps…I tried wrapping first, but for the $75-80 spend and the snap on/off, it’s not that much more expensive than wrapping and far less time consuming with better end result. The bulge and grill are easy do-it-yourself too, and reasonably priced. The front end caps are the pricey spend and plastic, so I ended up going with an aftermarket bumper for not much more considering. Might be able to have those chrome front end caps powder coated for a better price point too if staying stock with your bumper.

I got the old pro color matched grille but waiting the weather. Dang rain day after day. Hopefully this week I’ll have enough time to get it going. Watched a couple YouTube vids of guys doing the exact same thing. Stock grille insert fits perfectly into the old pro grille surround so everything will be the same/shouldn’t effect the TSS system whatsoever since it’s the same insert.

I’ll post some pics as soon as I get it going. Thanks for asking

Just bought the old pro color matched grille and bulge. After dipping them and not satisfied with the results decided to pony up. Looks good in black but can't wait for the Cement color match to get here!

Sounds like we’re doing the same mod. Post a before pic when you get a chance. Like to see how it looks dipped.

Not the best pictures. The dip is not very smooth and just looks crappy for a new vehicle. I could probably live with the dip if the truck was 10 years old

Looks pretty good in the photo. For sure tho the color matched surround is the way to go!

How was separating the insert from the surround, pita, and how long did it take?

I’ll be separating the pro grille tomorrow then putting a couple coats of wax on the surround before I take the stock apart and insert the stock insert. But before I swap out the inserts, I have the Limited Edition, so it has these duller/satin chrome bars going across the insert that I’ll probably dip a darker gray prior to doing the swap install. Plus maybe a couple coats of matte clear coat over the dip to really harden it up and help protect it and make easier to clean.

In the picture the 3 set of bars across the grille I will darken

It was not bad at all, probably took 15 minutes. I forgot some side pieces and just took it out again yesterday. Took 10 minutes to take off and put back on. Just be careful it was much tougher to separate the first time. You should have no problem! But I can see how some guys would break a tab or two.

Thanks for the info. I watched a couple YouTube videos on it and it doesn’t look difficult but you must be gentle and careful for sure with all those tabs.

Post a picture after you are done with the swap. Plus you’ll probably be able to sell the old pro grille insert and get a few bucks back.

Well nice job. Looks really nice. Do you plan on keeping them that way?

I plan on dipping mine as well. Gonna use a darker gray on them, the center part of the fascia and the grille insert bars. When I pull the stock grille off I’ll see if they (the 3 satin plastic chrome bars) can be separated from the black plastic part of the insert. Otherwise I’ll have to do extra taping off. Just seems like it would be easier to dip if I had the 3 bars detached. Not sure if it’s a possibility so I’ll find out soon.

Dip I ordered (Anthracite gray) should be delivered today so I should be able to get this mod going within the next few days……hopefully

Yeah going to leave them until I can get some cement bumper caps. Should have rear sway bar today. Cement bulge and surround tomorrow and a pro x 15 tonneau Friday.

No issues with the shellz? Did you have to use black tape or anything along the edges so no sliver of chrome showed?

The shellz sorta spook me just being held by 3m tape. They definitely look good. Just hate to have one fly off when I’m cruising 80 mph on the hi-way.

I’ll be taking my old pro one part today. Then several coats of wax on the surround so it will be ready once the stock insert is done. Probably a few more days before I get it all done and ready to install.

The rears fit totally perfect. On the fronts there is a tiny sliver of chrome that shows if you look at the right angle. I could use a little black tape to cover it or something but it doesn't bother me much. My shellz have been on for closer to two years at the point without issue.

So I decided I’m just going to go ahead and wrap the chrome in a matte black. If I all the sudden start liking chrome again I can just take wrap off. Will start the project hopefully next week. Here’s so pics of how it looks right now . Excited for the transformation
