To Plasti Dip or NOT to Plasti Dip?

    What are your opinions?

I prefer wraps to dip. Not a fan of dip personally.

I was big on Plasti dip on my last vehicle but it really is a pain to get off after being on for years and kind of looks cheap this time around the only chrome I had to get rid of was the door handles and mirror caps so I just bought the OEM color matched.

    What all are you deleting?

I vinyl wrapped my bumpers to color match, I removed the Tundra badge, bought new black 5.7 badge, and 4x4 badge. Bought the OEM TRD Pro Grille that colored matched.

All of the chrome on the front and the rear. Should I just pay a pro to wrap the chrome for the delete?

I have heard it is hard to get off if needed. That is surely a CON in my opinion.

You can try BumperShellz too, these are basically plastic caps that adhere to the chrome. Most people are happy with them, not sure if Cements is an option yet, you would have to get them painted to color match.

I color matched my front, and my rear bumper pieces were matched already. Get it done as you can. It just looks better, imo.

I would check into a wrap shop for the bumpers. Mine were wrapped in 2017 and are still holding up. As for the grille, I would look on Spark Parts or another Toyota store and find a colored matched grille.

If you are dead set on dip you can look to see if there is a Raail installer in your area. It is basically a professional dip but at 1/5 the price of a wrap. There may not be as dramatic a of a cost savings for such a small scale project (wrap vs Raail) but you may luck out.

No dip, save your $$ for the bumper shellz, powder coat or factory replacement. Don’t skimp brother, you won’t be happy with the results.

    Been there……Done that……

I went with the OE color matched surround and hood bulge. Pricey for sure but I recouped almost half my money after I sold the chrome surround and hood bulge. Plus since I decided to keep my stock limited grille insert and sell the old style pro grille insert that came with the color matched surround.

You can NOT purchase just the color matched surround. The lowest price way to go I found is buying the old style pro grille/surround. Contact Bergy24 and ask him where he purchased his. He found a really low low price. I’d say under $400 for both the surround and bulge. So you could sell the old style pro grille insert and probably get $150 plus whatever you can get for the chrome surround/bulge. I sold mine for $50

I also dipped the front bumper caps and added several coats of rust oleum clear matte enamel just to toughen up the dip and add a little extra protection.

I bought the Amazon kit. It's not perfect but I like it.

I took advantage of the 25% off and free shipping Sale from the south East dealers.
Unfortunately the sale is over and prices are back up.

I plasti dipped mine 2 years ago with the intention of getting bumper caps and black emblems. But they still look perfect so maybe not

I got a local quote for chrome delete...

We have done these Tundra's before and here are the current prices. Keep in mind we remove the grille, and bumper plastics during this process, so we would need the vehicle for 2 days in most cases.

    1. Nose Fairing - $320 (All Chrome Around the center grille, including the piece on the hood)

    2. Front Bumper Chrome - $220

    3. Rear Bumper Chrome - $220

This feels a bit expensive for just a simple chrome delete. I can probably do it myself if I can get good vinyl.

Passport Toyota has a free shipping coupon right now. $469 for cement hood and bulge. Shipping is usually what makes these things so dang expensive. I just ordered mine.

You could ask your local dealership parts manager if they will match prices. That’s what I did so No Shipping charges plus less banging around via the shipper.

Also if anything was damaged I could return/exchange it. I called the parts manager and ordered the surround/bulge and it only took 2 days for it to arrive at the dealership.

Lowest price I could find at the time was Boch Toyota. After I swapped out the surround I put the Ol Style grille insert for sale (the brand new one that’s part of the cement surround) and sold it for $150 and then sold the chrome surround/bulge for $50. So I recouped $200 and was very happy! :)

Received an update the other day that my order is still 2 weeks out until it ships. At least it will be warmer when it arrives.
