You haven't even owned your Tundy long enough to bring it in for it's first smog test, have you?

I hate vehicle inspections. In Pennsylvania, it's EVERY YEAR! Emissions testing is required in 25 of the 67 counties. ALL diesel vehicles are exempt from emissions testing, from the little diesel Jettas all the way up to the big 18-wheelers. Heavy duty trucks (¾-ton and 1-ton HD pickups and vans, and big trucks, regardless of whether they are gas or diesel) are exempt from emissions). Safety inspections are required statewide for all vehicles.

My Tacoma always passes inspection with flying colors, but it's still a pain in the ass...

I'm texas I have to get my vehicle safety inspected every year.....have to in order to register your vehicle now. Depending on where you live will depend if an emissions check is part of your inspection or not

Was it a Tundy, a Taco, or another Toyota that saved their life?

a Tundy....if the design was different the wine would have smashed him to death. due to the design though the engine went under the truck and saved his life

The aforementioned former friend has a 2004 Nissan Altima...

I'd love to see how that holds up in certain accidents. The car's got less than 100K miles on it and it's falling apart. Friend says car is junk. I think she just doesn't take care of the damn thing...

I honestly do not know if this one is 2WD or 4x4. Appears to be a 2005-2006.

Either way, this one is in great shape. I noticed that the emissions sticker in the windshield said "EXEMPT." This means the vehicle is driven less than 5,000 miles a year and probably has really low miles. By the way, the guy who parked it there was older, like in his 50s.

Good afternoon, Charlie! That's a find, the kind of truck that makes me want to write a note to slip under one of the wipers, to ask the owner to keep my number and call when, someday, he decides to sell.

I have a 1988 Toyota truck; I think it's called a Hi-low. I bought it from my elderly neighbor in 2010 when he decided it was time to give up driving. Truck has low miles for a Toyota and, I hope, will be road-worthy for many more years....

I'm glad to see you posted up again. I didn't chime in the last time, but I'm watching to see what Tundras you deem worthy of a share, and I like that you tell us why you select them. (I get the idea you don't post every Tundra you see, but the ones that stand out to you.)

    You had a 1988 Toyota Hi-Lux LOL...

    Thanks for the kind words!

You might notice that some of the Tundras I've photographed are rather ordinary. The first batch, I photographed merely because I was in California.

Oh, yeah, 'Hi-Lux'. Haha! Yeah, I didn't know. Was trying to figure it out a couple of weekends ago when I went with a buddy to get parts at local junk yards. Nothing on the truck gives any hint.

Bein' in California is reason enough!

    I get that a lot...

Speaking of vehicle and me being a sharp cookie, the bar where I work used to have this 1999 GMC Safari SLE, which we used as a work van and rolling billboard. The owner of bar where I work is very wealthy and has many nice vehicles, but she was as attached to that damn Safari as I am to my Tacoma. She and her husband had a BMW M3 convertible, a BMW 760i, an old Porsche 356, a Nissan Titan and an Audi Q7 TDI, and it seemed like she loved that old van more than any of them! About the only vehicle she loved more than the van was her 1994 Land Rover Defender 90 (which she still has). She bought the van brand new, and it was LOADED. Power everything, front and rear A/C, keyless entry, CD player, and the highly sought after combination (at least among Astro and Safari van enthusiasts) of all-wheel drive and a G80 locking rear! When my boss (the current general manager) moved here from the Midwest in 2011, the Safari was essentially given to her by the bar owner as a company vehicle of sorts, and she drove it for the better part of four years until it was replaced with a Honda Element.

One time the driver's mirror got busted off (I forget exactly how this happened), and when my boss went to the dealer to order a new part, she didn't remember what year the van was! So, I was sitting at home on the computer (it was my day off), and I get a text from my boss...

"Charlie, what year is the van?"

I say "1999 GMC Safari SLE. Why?"

She then tells me she's getting parts for it and couldn't remember the year...

It's actually Tacomas he doesn't consider to be real trucks LOL. He knows I love Chevy trucks and Toyota trucks, and he's a lifelong diehard Ford guy. His daily driver is a 2005 Lincoln Town Car and his "ongoing project" is a 1974 Ford F100. He said at least if I had a Chevy K1500 or a Tundra, that'd at least be a full-size, V8-powered truck.

Back in September 2009 after I first got my learner's permit, I almost ended up with a red 2009 Ranger XLT instead of my silver 2010 Tacoma. I believe this Ranger was a special order that someone decided they did not want.

It was a regular cab shortbed 2WD, and it had the standard 2.3L 4-cylinder with a 5-speed automatic. It also had the XLT trim and was loaded; A/C, cruise, tilt, power windows and locks, stereo CD with AUX input. We test drove it, but sticker was close to $20,000 and my dad couldn't get them low enough so we walked...

Glad I ended up with the Tacoma instead!

I don't despise Fords, especially not the trucks equipped with the 7.3L Powerstroke Turbo diesel, but I like Chevrolets (and GMCs) better.
