    My new puppy, Mandy, started to drink excessively about two weeks ago. She would literally drink, and drink, and drink, until she barfed up the water (along with whatever the hell else she'd eaten). My parents finally took her to the vet yesterday, and it the vet was able to determine that something was wrong with her kidneys, but she did have the resources to make an accurate diagnosis. My parents took her to a specialist about forty minutes away from our house, where they did an ultrasound and ran some other tests. Sadly, the diagnosis was much more serious than we could have ever expected.

    Mandy's has Congenital Renal Dysplasia, which means that she was born with deformed and scarred kidneys. The vet believes that this started when she was still in her mother's womb, and nothing could have been done, though my cousin who's a vet tech believes her mother could have eaten something while pregnant, or that Mandy could have eaten something shortly after birth but before she was rescued. Mandy was found, along with her brother and sister, in a box by the side of the road in Spartansburg, South Carolina.

    Mandy's kidneys are flatter than normal and have bizarre scarring. They are essentially only operating at about 40% of their normal capacity. All of her other internal organs are perfectly fine. Right now, Mandy is happy, as full of life as a dog with her condition can be, and is seemingly full of energy. She just drinks like a fish, and as a result she has less control of her bladder and must be let outside to use the bathroom constantly. We are going to train her to use indoor pee pads in addition to continuing with her housebreaking.

    Mandy lifespan will be shorter than it would have been if she were perfectly healthy, but the vet thinks there's a possibility she could live to be 5-7 years old. However, there is also a chance she could go downhill and either die or have to be put to sleep before one year of age (she's just under 4 months old now).

    I was telling my cousin that on the phone I'd be willing to sell my Tacoma to pay for a kidney transplant before I broke down and started crying. Unfortunately, it would cost more than double what my Tacoma is worth to perform a canine kidney transplant and the procedure has a very low success/survival rate. My dad actually has that kind of money and says he probably would have paid the roughly $20K if it was guaranteed Mandy would live a full and normal life.

    Basically, nobody knows what the future holds, but as long as my little Mandy is willing to fight, I'll be willing to fight with her!

    Sorry to hear about your pup Charlie :(
    I hope she can live a long happy life with her condition. I know it’s tough and it’s really cool you’d be willing to sell your truck for her. Let’s just hope she can over come her condition. Best thing you can do is spend as much time with her and make sure she has the best life possible while she’s here :pray:

    Oh, this is an unfortunate turn of events, Charlie. I'm sorry, man. On the silver lining side, since you and your family are clearly a loving and willing home of carers, Mandy is blessed to have found her way to you! And lucky she got diagnosed and can get get some treatment.

    I still miss my diabetic cat, Wesley, every day. He definitely made an impression on us, and having to provide daily care just strengthens the bonds. It'll make your heart bigger, no matter how long she's with you. Keep us posted (hopefully years making happy memories before it gets rough).

I think she found her way to you for a reason....and I think it's a beautiful thing. Don't dwell on the bad....just love her unconditionally like she does you and you both will be filled with love!

    I know this is a little late to this thread, but my husband's 2011 SR5 Crew Max came with a regular radio & doesn't have the backup camera in the rearview mirror either. I was searching the forums to see what options were for backup cameras and came upon this thread. I'm assuming it's probably pre-wired though - something we'll check now.

    It could be pre wired but may just as easy to run new cable/wire as needed. The new tailgate latch assembly came with the cabling. When we had the new HU (radio with screen) installed, I had them install cabling and camera as well. Total install price at local shop under $200. Money well spent IMHO.
