Funny story about my employer's Tundy...

The truck this 2016 Tundy 1794 replaced was a fully loaded black 2005 Nissan Titan LE extra cab 4x4. My employer purchased the Titan brand new and it had about 90K on the clock when they traded it for the Tundy. The primary reasons they got rid of it were that it was 11 years old and things were starting to break. At the time my employer purchased the Tundy, she was unaware that an all-new Titan with a diesel option was on the way. When I told her about the Titan XD diesel, she was a bit pissed and told me that she would have bought the Titan instead of the Tundra if she knew about the diesel engine option!

Honestly, I think the Tundy is a better choice. What do you think?

That's a tough one. The Titan XD diesel is very nice and a beast of a truck but a tundra 1794 has all the bells and whistles for luxury and the added reliability. All depends on her needs. I'm a Toyota fan boy so I'd go tundra all day long.

I think she made the right choice in reliability. My father in law was looking at the Titan XD and that thing was pretty awesome, but I don't think I'd ever buy outside of Toyota. Unless I was rich of course then I'm buying all kinds of ferraris :)

Normally, I keep Tacoma pics in my primary TacomaWorld.com thread, Tundy pics in my Tundras.com thread (this one), and T4R pics in... Well, you get the idea!

There's a neat little story behind how I ended up photographing this Taco, so I figured I'd share it!

This is a 2005 AC 4x4, base model with 2.7L and 5-speed stick! One frame replacement under its belt from the recall, but 180K miles on the original engine and tranny!

So I was taking my boss's dog for a walk around the block, and just before 7:45, this red 2nd gen pulled into the parking lot of a local church.

I stood at the entrance to the parking lot and waited patiently for the driver to get out, and began the conversation by asking "Is your Tacoma Barcelona red?!?!"

The owner, an older guy, kinda chuckled and told he'd had it repainted (I knew it was too bright to be a factory color).

So we got to talking (which is how I learned about the truck's history and mileage). A dog owner himself, the guy absolutely loved my boss's dog Tully. I then noticed that the guy was wearing a "NAVY VETERAN" windbreaker and said "as the son of a Navy vet, I'd like to thank you for your service." This then sparked a conversation about the Navy (always fun for me).

The owner, John, told me there were two things he disliked about his Tacoma. The first was the lack of intermittent windshield wipers (I told him how easy this was to fix and encouraged him to check out TW). The second was the lack of power windows. This is only the third 2nd generation AC I've see with crank windows, and only the second I've seen in person. On top of that, this is the only 6-lug AC I've seen with crank windows! The other two were 5-luggers!

Oh, and before John went inside, I asked him if I could take pictures of his truck, and he said yes, so here ya go!

Was at the gas station yesterday and became surrounded by 2nd gen tundras. All came in separately and to get gas.....of course.
4 tundras all at the pumps and a taco rolled in too. Felt like a dealership. Wish I had a chance to grab a pic.

My dad wants to buy a new Ford Expedition, but we ended up going to the Chevy dealer too. I spotted this tucked away in the used vehicle section of the Chevy dealer!

The sign in the window says it's an '09, but I think it may actually be '07 or '08 because it has an aftermarket backup camera above the license plate (like in my Taco) instead of the factory location in the tailgate handle...

    IMG_4456.jpg

Obviously, the previous owned lived in Virginia, and it was just inspected here in Pennsylvania, but I don't understand why they left both stickers...

I guess it's for the off-chance someone from VA buys it?!?!

You can also clearly see that this truck has leather seats. Since SR5 and above came with backup camera beginning in '09 (and this is clearly higher up than an SR5), it further leads me to believe someone put the wrong year on it!

Maybe the prior owner was military and was stationed in place but had it registered in another. Some bases require you to have the state inspection of where you are stationed even though you are registered in another state.

I think state inspections should be abolished. Nothing but a pain in the ass to those of us who actually take care of our vehicles!

Is a Tundra X-SP a real thing, or did somebody put their own emblem on that white '09?

To be honest I'm not sure. It could be a regional thing similar to the TSS package. I've never seen one out here in California. I've never really seen a TSS until I joined this forum also.
