Whats up fellas. How are you all prepared to change tires with a lift? I put 3-4x4x12" with plywood top for a hunting trip last year. Never needed it. But was thinking of a better way. Any suggestions. I recently got a camper shell so can move some stuff the the bed. I will probably buy a small locking box for bed to keep items in... anyone running a hi-lift? Seems like those can only be used if you have armor to lift from. Side note...i have wiring for the shell brake light. Where should I tie into? Trailer harness or brake light? I am going to get it bed lined soon so I will wait til thats done. Also want to run led strips under bed rails to a switch... let me know what you guys think! Cheers

I use a 6 ton bottle jack and a 2' 6x6 laminated post. And my cap is tied into the break light with its own inline fuse

I keep a bigger jack and a piece of 4x4 in a box in the bed, with gloves, pressure gauge, breaker bar, and spare lugs:)

Custom cut a few 2x6 blocks for stacking purposes and have them neatly wedged into the rear under seat storage on both sides with the other emergency stuff.

I put the Stock jack under the rear axle, or the front lower control arm. Otherwise I have an "SUV" 3.5 ton floor jack that I use in the shop. It has a higher reach to jack the truck up using the frame.

For emergency’s I have the stock jack and I carry a piece of 4x4 and 2x6 for stacking.

Saw this last night, and I will be doing this once I get a shell.

    Heres what I did
I took power from the drivers side rear brake light for the topper brake light and power from that running light to a switch for topper utility light so it can’t be accidentally left on and built box with drawers for storage

So there is constant power available in the rear tail light? Perfect! Those boxes you have look great.

hi-lift jacks have a number of tire/wheel slings that will work.

The stock jack should work well on the rear axle jack point even with a lift but may need a block for the front frame jack point with a lift. Give it a try, the stock jack rises up to nearly 20".

This is the way. I too have a 6 ton jack and a few accessories from Safe Jack. https://safejacks.com/collections/

All of it fits nicely in the storage pocket below the rear seat.

The stock bottle Jack with a High Lift base (orange square pad for the Jack in sand) works well. The fit is tight but will slide in with some assistance

Safe Jack stuff has caught my eye a few times but I've never pulled the trigger. Thanks for the reminder.

What is it that the jack is sitting on. Have you removed the rear seat and added storage? Do you photos of it. I'm curious what you have there.

That metal thing is a slide my fridge sat on. I've since removed it and I'm reconsidering my setup. I haven't added any storage yet.

Excellent jack setup! I was going to get a widow-maker for my Tuna but you've changed my mind. Kudos on the purifier and 9s too, good things to have in the stash.

This is what I do pretty much every time I have a flat away from home and I am not on pavement. If you have a slow leak you can put some air in it and drive it off pavement into dirt/ softer surfaces.

Place a piece of plywood or a block under your jack to keep it from sinking. Jack the truck up enough where the truck's weight is primarily resting on the jack. Next, take your FULL SIZE (not the cute little foldable shovels) and spend some time shoveling that dirt out from around/ beneath the tire. Once you get the bad tire off, dig the whole even deeper where you can get the spare on without issue. Once it's on, lower the jack, tighten the lugs, and you are on your way.

@des2mtn That is a great approach in that type of soil. If I tried that here the TN rocks/clay would just laugh at me. :)

Yep, it really depends all on the terrain. The longest part of this tire change was finishing my beer. With some soils you might be able to dump a bit of water to loosen it up a bit but solid rock... nope!

You can loosen up and even dissolve solid rock with enough water and enough time. Just ask the Grand Canyon.
